I really like this site. I started to add some Japanese keywords in Firefox.. So I still use the English ones most of the time, but I get used to the Japanese prononciations as well at the same time.
It would be nice if all this work to add Japanese Keywords, or change some of the Heisig one that I think are not really inspiring or not connected to the main meaning of the kanji, that I mean all this would be stored under my profile log in and not only on the Firefox "cookies" or preferences. So that if I open this site on my iphone I would be still able to see the xtra keywords that I manually inputted
Is this possible ?

While on this topic, I'm going to take the opportunity and ask Fabrice to never add a thread rating or user rating system. I've seen terrible things happen to forums once those were introduced.

I just got an iPod touch and since this is the device I will probably be using most for this site, I would like to see next and last navigation buttons for the forum pages. I find that if I don't zoom enough I sometimes hit the wrong page. But that's just if it's convenient for you.

I personally think there are uses to status. Post count is irrelevant, but ability in Japanese isn't. I realize that just because someone has studied for 6 years and another one just for 1 year, we can't know for sure that the 6 year student is a better source. But I would personally prefer advice from someone who has passed JLPT1 than someone who is working on JLPT4, if you know what I mean. Not to say that the opinion of the second person should be ignored, but it might be relevant to know, in some cases.

That could lead to all sorts of wrong when it comes to discussion. I can see many arguments diverging into battles of status and ego. Also, given there are many routes to one goal, simply having something that says "I passed" gives no indication of how one got there; JLPT 2 in 6 months vs JPLT 1 in 15 years, etc. There's already enough of this sort of thing on the net. Why create yet another means of separation?

I think so too, but doesn't the chapter progess wall achieve that? I found that seeing that gradually change colour was a good progress monitor and motivator for me.  I also don't see much purpose for a public, competitive system as pace varies for different reasons among people. Besides, folks seem to find other ways to help motivate each other.

Badges? I couldn't help but picture all these RTKers running around with rows of little triangular badges sewn onto their yellow and blue RTK uniforms. Perhaps with an RTK-scarf-to-beat-all-scarves from our poster guy... smile...

The focus of this site is not studying Japanese.  It is for remembering and writing kanji.  A user who becomes the most skilled at this, in theory, might not know a lick of Japanese.

Personally, it would be great if there were two types of flashcards. One working like they are working right now ~ testing writing the kanjis, the other checking the 'reading' skills (meaning you're given a kanji, write down the meaning, check it and so on). In summary, I would love to be able to use flashcards in two ways.

Good idea, the pagination is not very user friendly as it is. I'm working on it.

I sometimes take a long time doing my reviews and can be looking at a keyword for a long time before I recall the kanji (or give up and fail it).  I know I could literally cut my review time in half if I was more strict with the time I give myself to remember them, but I find it very hard to keep to, say, a 5 second (or whatever) time limit for each one.

Perhaps you could incorporate an optional system where you can specify a countdown time for the keywords before their respective kanji is automatically displayed on the screen?

I'm currently using a greasemonkey script to replace English keywords with German ones ("Substitute Keywords"), will I still be able to use that after the redesign? I'd have to switch to another SRS otherwise which might be pretty troublesome.

No need to worry about that. I'll just upgrade the scripts after the redesign comes live. Just send me a PM. The upgrade might take a couple of days though.

yo6shi9, you want to see the list you made on a single web page, right? That kind of idea was torpedoed when I first released the script, to discourage sharing officially translated keywords without permission, but times are changing. Might do something about it some day.

Better still, post a message in the Greasemonkey thread to which I'm subscribed.

Do you think you could add an 'undo' button to the reviews? Anki has one.

The mistakes I make in marking a card every so often probably get worked out in time by the SRS, but a little extra accuracy won't hurt.

I've got a little RFE; I often use the website jisho.org to lookup kanji details (more meanings of a Kanji and example sentences). It would be nice if there would be a link to this (or a similar) site with more kanji details.

I wonder if there is a way to view reports by most recent.  I have 63 reported stories (out of 2165 shared so maybe not so bad) which is up a couple from a few days ago.   I have been adding kana from RTK2 to my old stories. A few of the reports have been due to my typos and I want to correct those ASAP so as not to confuse anyone.  But I am not sure which reports are new so I can take a look at them.

oh, and a small idea.
When in the study section and browsing through the stories, would it be possible to have a key shortcut for moving forward or backwards without usint the mouse and click on the arrows? It is not a big issue but I am a laptop user and used to use as many shortcuts as possible.

It's not really a 'site' idea but I would love an external program (SRS) just for RTK that can sync with this website.  Quite often I have my laptop in places I don't have an internet connection and I like to review my kanji before studying new ones, so quite often I end up not being able to do either.

Hi, I could not find the place for a bugreport so I'm doing it here.
When you enter a kanji that is outside RTK, you'll always get this page:

I havn't read all of the other suggestions so this may have already been said but would it be possible to have a small box to type in what you had trouble with in the character when you fail a card.

Something small like "primitive order" or something so that when you come to review it you can work on correcting this thing and not forget, only to fail it the next time for the same reason etc?

I saw one of the users has an animated forum kanji pic that does stroke order.  I know next to nothing about computer programming, but it would be such an incredible addition if each kanji in the study page was animated in such a way with stroke order.

Not sure if this helps, but I tend to add such a comment directly to my story for that character...
