So I just moved to New York City and have discovered the paradise of Bookoff and Kinokuniya book stores here in the city.  If there is a Japanese book/movie/cd you?d like and don?t want to pay to ship it from Japan, send me a message with the item and/or a link to it on amazon.co.jp and I?ll see if it?s available and how much I could get it to you for.

Ahh yeah. I love bookoff. I got a giant backpack full of manga[probably at least 20 volumes] for about $40.

Oh, I had no idea BoofOff had any form of store outside of Japan, that's interesting.

Yep, they are all over the place.  There are 3 here in SoCal that I frequent and I know they opened one recently in San Diego.

Sadly, 'all over the place' doesn't seem to include Orlando Florida.  wink

If anyone knows of a decent Japanese store in Orlando, I'd like to hear of it.  I've found a few that carry translated stuff, but none that carry un-translated.

Florida Oriental Trading on Colonial has some stuff I believe.. imported copies of NewType come to mind, but there's probably a couple other things too. I haven't been there since around the beginning of the year. I know their wall of manga was all translated unfortunately. They also had a lot of VCDs and such as of the last time I went. A lot of those are chinese though, but I'm sure there's a bit of japanese stuff mixed in. It might be worth a look if you've never been there.

I also welcome any suggestions regarding Orlando though wink

I went there first, actually...  The name made me hopeful.  I bought every back issue of Animedia they had (from 2002 to 2005, about 10 issues over that period), as well as the only NewType USA (they had no JP NewType at all left).  Other than that, they pointed me at the art books as the only other thing in Japanese in the store.  Don't get me wrong, they were super friendly, and the store was nice...  It's just got nothing I want in the future, since they aren't carrying the magazines at all now.

I've also been to 1 of the 2 Japan HQs...  Half of it was hello kitty, half was gundam, and there was a super tiny DVD section.  At least Florida Oriental Trading had a huge selection of what they had.  I'm a little sour on Japan HQ as they advertise themselves as -the- place in Orlando to go for Japanese stuff.  Here, I found the quote:  "Now you know why Japan HQ is quickly becoming the store to shop for all things Japanese." - http://www.japanhq.net/index.php?option … ;Itemid=39  This place is smaller than a mall Radio Shack!  From the description, I was expected something more on the lines of Barnes & Noble!

So yeah, still looking for somewhere in Orlando.

Edit:  Oh, and the lady at Japan HQ stared at me the entire time I was in there, like I was going to steal something.  Having worked retail, I know the difference between 'I'd like to help you' and 'You won't steal from me' stares.
