well I'm new to the whole rtk thing and i use anki when learning kanji and i was wondering when i put the kanji and the story for it do i just let anki do the rest of the work? because ya know when i  feel I've finally remembered a kanji i press 4 and i end up not being able to see the kanji again for like 4-7 days and i was like WTF, i will have completely forgotten the kanji by then or is this ok? or should i be pressing the 2 (difficult) more often?

Just play it be ear. If you recalled the character without any effort, by all means, hit 4. You will get a feel for what things you 'remembered' v.s. 'easily remembered' as time goes on. Besides, if you forget 50% of the cards you marked for review 4 days from now, you'll reset 50% of them for viewing soon, and the other half will be scheduled for 2 weeks.

If you honestly feel it was easy to remember the story, you shouldn't hesitate in setting it to 4. Yeah, you will probably fail it when it finally comes up again, but the point is to force your brain into putting the kanji in long-term memory. The reason you found it easy now might be because it's still in your short term memory, if you keep reviewing it too often, your brain will get used to it being that way.
