Hey everyone,

I just bought a notebook yesterday and it has Vista. Well, I downloaded the new version of Mnemosyne and opened my usual deck... For some reason, Mnemosyne doesn't close, not when I click to X or when I right click and "close", it just doesn't close. I like the idea of some more stats with Mnemosyne, but it has to work, you know. wink

Is this a Vista problem? A problem with Mnemosyne? I can probably just get the old version of Mnemosyne from my computer (and will do so when my network manages to work again) but I was just wondering...

Maybe it's a sign I should import my Mnemosyne list into Anki (can you do that and keep the scheduled data?) ^_^;

I had problems with mnemosyne in vista too. Even if closes it will still be running in background.

I switched to anki.
Anki imports .mem files without any effort. Just backup everything before trying.

With the scheduling data intact? Great, I'll try it. Although it will be weird to have all my words and sentences mixed up (but at the same time it'll be great to see my real total kanji count ^_^)

For some reason Anki fails to import my Mnemosyne deck, and I can't get the 'old' version of Mnemosyne to work on my notebook. Ugh, this is proving to be very annoying. (And on top of that, my video card (of my computer, not the notebook) failed again so I can't do anything on that computer (but as it starts up just fine, I can reach my files from the notebook.)).

I have over 2000 entries in Mnemosyne... ehm... *sighs*

Anki is superior to mnemosyne in many aspects. You will be happy if you can get it to work. What version of mnemosyne were you using, and what error messages are you getting?

Not intact. It changes a lot, but it still works. I guessing, but I think anki does a rescheduling on your cards.

I have a feel that anki's algorithm is smarter than mnemosyne's.

I have been using Anki for just over a year now, but exclusively for sentences and grammar points. I just started out in Mnemosyne with the words, and kept it that way. I'm not too sure about merging everything into one deck, on one hand it would be more practical but... Well, it would just take some getting used to I suppose.

Mnemosyne does work now... After reinstalling it a few times *shrugs* Importing in Anki doesn't work though... So I guess I have to try that some other time.

Thanks for the replies

Two decks is a bit of a hassle. What I do is I have different models for each group. I put kanji in my kanji model, JP sentences in my JP model, and other non-jp stuff in my other models. It's really nice, because I can customize everything (priorities, tags, card models) exactly the way I want it.

What error message are you getting with importing into anki?

Hm, I didn't have a problem with Mnemosyne on my Vista(Home Premium).

Report a bug and email me your mnemosyne deck and I'll look into why you can't import it.

Anki just gives a "failed to import" message, that's all.

A little off topic, but perhaps not too far...  I am using Twinkle on an old Palm Tungsten T.  As the Palm OS seems to be on its last legs, I have been wondering if I could transfer my Twinkle files to Anki, or something that runs of mobile windows.  I can export these files, sides A and B, as CVS files and pull them into Excel.  Of course, I lose all the important SRS info, but this is something I can live with, if I have to.  Has anyone else tried to move away from Twinkle?
