Does anyone know where I could find a good resource for computer terminlogy (and maths, whilst we're at it)? My knowledge of vocabulary in that field is limited to "Xを入力してください:" and "コンピューター", haha.

Anyway, my request. Could anyone possibly tell me what the translations of any of these words might be (even if you give me one, that's cool)? I want to set my OS to be as Japanese as possible. Even if it's just one word, that'll be handy. I know that name = 名前 but that's about it for these things. Brilliant. The date doesn't need to be translated, nor the values (obviously).

The compdict file should have translations of everything you're looking for, it's an offshoot of the EDICt dictionary file but for communication and technology terms.

I think you'll find, if you do this, that this will mostly result in a lot of katakana reading practice. That's a fine thing, but it isn't altogether very useful in most situations. More power to you, though, for going after the immersion. There's gotta be some useful stuff you can pick up from doing that.

Holy crap, that's brilliant, just what I've been looking for. Thank you so, so much.

I thought that, too, but there's a huge amount of stuff which doesn't use katakana. In any case, the more reading practice the better. (and watching my friends try to navigate my PC is amusing in and of itself, in any case...)

Try wikipedia also. You can search for the article in the English wikipedia, then once you're in the article, look at a box on the left part of the page and select nihongo.

Here's most of the words:

プロサス
システム
ディスク
カーネル
ホーム
物理メモリ(Another word for RAM: Physical Memory)
スワプ(?I made this one up on my own.)
ネットワーク
ホスト
再生中
アーティスト
曲名
電源
ACアダプタ
電池
継続時間

Swap = スワップ

If you don't mind a site all in Japanese (which should work fine for looking up translations), I found this site:

http://e-words.jp/

Probably not going to have much over Wikipedia, though? And the pages have a lot of ads on them.
