Here's a test which requires you to check off words you can read in kanji to give you a rough estimate of the number of kanji you 'know'.  It's pretty cool.

Pretty cool. It says I know about 200, which is more than I would have thought.

1500-1600.

I think I've taken it before, but only got around 700 that time.

400 - 420

Less than I thought.
I sent the link to myself through futureme.org in half a year and a year.
Interesting to see, how much improvement has happened in that time.

1600-1700 it says.

Some of them I knew the meaning only, some kanji I apparently totally forgot. Not surprising given I don't review them.

edit: typo :p

Well.. I only tabbed those compounds that I was confident I knew the correct yomikata.

Nearly 700. Just as I had expected. My current Anki deck says 686 unique kanji.

720-760

Which seems about right... I have almost 700 unique kanji in my sentences in Anki, and then several hundred more in words in Mnemosyne.

Not nearly enough, but I'm working on it.

690-730

There were a few I was sure I knew but just couldn't remember the reading.  Oh well, not too bad.

580-600

I have 986 unique kanji in my deck, 2800 cards, a lot of them are basic grammar sentences with recycled kanji though.

480-500

I only answered for the ones that I knew both reading and meanings for.  BTW... what's the reading for 楽な?  らく?

Pretty fun test, but I'm not convinced that this is very accurate.  Personally I think that I've only "mastered" meaning and readings for around 150-200 kanji.  It's especially apparent when I play my 漢字練習 gbds game, in which I'm currently struggling through 3rd grade.

Oh, I didn't check off the ones I didn't know. If I didn't know the reading or the kanji, I didn't check it.

1200-1300

There were a lot that I knew the meanings of but didn't check because I forgot how to pronounce.

1200-1300 for ones I could pronounce and knew the meaning

There are about 1400 kanji in my Anki deck, so probably a decent estimate from that page.

As long as things don't get too complicated/specialized towards things I don't know well, I can usually understand what's going on. But sometimes I lose track.
