Hello

I've been studying RTK1 for about 3 months now and I finished the last lesson this morning. I wanted to thank all the people that have made this possible:
- the creators/admins of this wonderful site. The idea of sharing the stories is absolutely fabulous!
- all the story-posters, for all their ideas (I am still laughing when I remember the story for cereals : "a cereal killer"). I must say that I am impressed by the ideas behind some stories.
- all the poster in the forums, for giving me the strength to go on, seeing others with the same questions that I had in mind (I did not post because I had nothing to say, but I read a lot)

Thank you all, I would have not managed without you! Good luck if you are still on your way, congratulations if you have already passed!

PS: I did not post this on the "congratulate me" post on purpose, I do not want to be congratulated, I just wanted to congratulate the others ^_^

Awesome, congrats! I'm on #542 today and working hard. I'm looking forward to the day when I can say I'm finished, too!

ありがとうございます, 皆さん

From now on, I want to try the AJATT method (I have tried many methods in the past but they did not work so well), I hope this time it will be different (as a matter of fact, learning all the kanji has already made a difference...).

stshores24, I still remember when I was about #700 (it was about that time that I switched to Anki I think) and I was not sure about my ability to learn all the kanji. Then I read the topics on this site and I saw that many people managed to do it, it was a big help.  I hope my (small) success will encourage you... がんばって下さいね ^_^

catzhead, may I ask why you needed to switch reviews to Anki ? Was this for the offline review ability ?

In fact, I hoped that one day there would be an iTouch/iPhone version of Anki, so I could review during the day. It seems that this is not planned for the moment, so I thought that I could make mine with the iPhone SDK, but I could not find the time to seriously begin the project (there are some Python scripts on the Net, but I could not make them work).

I think that RvTK is great and really convenient, it is just that I have made the choice early on and after that I simply did not think about it (I have been on RvTK every day to study since I took the stories from the site, but I was so focused on the kanji that I forgot about the site's ability as an SRS...).

So the change had little to do with a problem on the site or Anki being more convenient, I think that they are both as user-friendly as possible.

I hope this answers your question...

Yes, thank you. So you were looking for a mobile version. Since I don't use PocketPC's or iPhone's I'm still a bit puzzled about what you guys are looking for in a "mobile" version. Are you looking for the equivalent of a pocketPC program which works offline, or for a online review but which fits in the mobile browser format ?

i like having it on my computer so i can use it in non-wired libraries, the bus, the train, airplanes, etc.

also, i like having it on my computer so that i can escape the internet... i'm sure we've all had moments where we're reviewing and then suddenly find ourselves on utube watching the latest silly videos.

I didn't think about escaping the internet, but maybe it's a good idea ^_^ I usually spend the first 10-15 min answering mails and such, if I were offline, maybe I would be more focused...

In fact, the main reason, as TGWeaver said, is to have it on the train or in cafes that are not wired yet, sometimes simply in my bed before I sleep (my wifi doesn't go as far as my bedroom, a problem with the walls). In fact, I am always worried about an internet cut (last year my connection stopped for about two 2 weeks, twice) and I don't want this to impact my studies. I know this is not rational, but still I cannot help from being cautious...

Since you mention this, I must say that I don't use mobile brower versions of sites because if I use my iTouch, it's because I don't have a wifi spot nearby (so no internet). Therefore I am not very interested in browser versions of Anki or Katzumemo, for example (maybe you have also a mobile browser version, I haven't check).

Maybe in the future this will change, the day internet is available on all mobile devices, everywhere, but this is not the case for me ^_^

I think a mobile version would be fantastic - that is a screen specifically designed for mobile review, minimizing the file sizes as much as possible, and an option to convert the kanji to images.  I'm currently using the proxy written by Ricardo, which is very effective, but it's a little clunky going through the proxy every time, and it isn't really tailored for mobile review.

As a separate request, I think it would be great to have an import/export function on the stacks so that you could review without the internet.  You could import/export from/to comma delimited, and I"m sure someone could come up with a simple offline program to review away from a connection.

Sounds like a fair bit of work, though.  I love the site the way it is!

Hi all,

I'm new to the site, and I have to say I'm very impressed. After getting off to a stuttering start with various reviewing systems (bits of paper...) this site seems perfect. I would, however, like to echo requests for a portable version. I have a very long commute to and from work (>1.5hrs) so I wanted to review kanji on that trip, however, the mobile phone coverage along that route is spotty at best. So for me what would be perfect would be an app which would allow you to review all your current cards completely offline, but also sync results up with this site.

I realise this is quite a major project, but I am an (inexperienced) developer myself, and something like this would be an interested project. If we have a couple of people on the site who would be interested in such a project, then please get in touch.

I should point out, I have an iPhone, so I've been looking at the iPhone SDK and trying to make an app with that.
