I'm looking for inspiration for designing a revamp of the whole site in which Trinity is a major area next to the current RTK features.

Could you post links to websites for which you particularly enjoy the design and/or the overall structure? I'm especially interested in other web applications and how they handle the navigation.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how the navigation will work in the next site design, specifically what is called "top level" navigation. For example currently the main site tabs say "Home", "Study", "Review", "Reading", etc. But that is too generic because you can also review or study in Trinity.

Part of my headaches is that I designed the Trinity "home" page with the concept of 3 main areas. So logically they could go in the main tabs, "Sentences", "Vocabulary", "Kanji" is more descriptive than "RTK" and "Trinity." If I do that, then the tabs in the Trinity main page become obsolete.. but they are more than navigation as they show a overall status for 3 areas without having to visit 3 different pages.

The other solution is to integrate RTK in Trinity, as part of the "Kanji" area..

If you have ideas on this fire away! Even if you don't think it would work, it could be just the spark I need!

Personally I think the RTK part should be integrated into Trinity.

I really like the idea of integrating RevTK into Trinity... if you could put it under the Kanji section, then I *think* it would be all neat and tidy looking.

Looking at the way that you have Trinity set up right now, the "Kanji" section has places for the two different readings of characters. Technically the RTK method is about learning the meaning of the character in your own native language (as well as the writing of the kanji), so it would make sense (to me, but I'm weird) to have an "English Meaning", "On Reading" and "Kun Reading" section in Trinity.

I can't claim to know anything about the architecture of the site, but I do think that it might make it easy to include different-language versions of RTK if you have a "<language name> meaning" sort of section. Then again, maybe people like to be able to read the other posts. Sometimes I get help on mnemonics from the French posts that some users have put up... so... *shrug*

I also vote for incorporating it into Trinity.

One site that I find easy to navigate is the web-broker www.scottrade.com.  Its not going to win any beauty awards as it is fairly cluttered, but the upside is that I've never had to put more than a few seconds thought into figuring where I want to be directed.  In particular, I like how there are spaces on the right so you can immediately login.  Notice also that there is a dropdown menu in the login area that allows users to select a start page.  I also like how they have tiers of tabs; its cool how they set off and drew attention to "open a new account".  I think it is always a good idea to put tabs like this that are important, but only used once or twice per user, such as new account or about us on their own tier.  As for Trinity, I'm not really sure if this type of setup would be applicable; I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

One more vote for incorporating the RTK section into Trinity under the kanji tab, I do think this would make trinity more streamline and have all your workload in one area which makes it more manageable.

I also agree on incorporating RevTK within Trinity. I take this opportunity to resubmit a suggestion which I posted some time ago and which may sound more relevant in the present context :

Some users may want to practice with Trinity before actually completing RevTK (my case at least). So it would be nice if a connection could be made between the two sections so that the kanji that have not yet been learned in RevTK are displayed differently or even, ideally, transcripted is kana in the quizz sentences. For that purpose, the program should somehow know the kana transcript for each sentence. This could be entered at the time the sentenced is typed in. Actually, I feel that there might be an extra field specifically for the pronunciation, like in Anki, rather than putting all information together in the Note field (one could always choose to leave it empty).
Just my two pence though?

My 2 cents:
This is my favorite site on the internet.  It's clean, uncluttered, easy to navigate, and overall well thought out.  But then when I get to the forums page, I suddenly can't get anywhere.  In the updated site, hopefully there will be a way to get to any page (or section) I want from whatever section I'm in, without having to click through several pages to get there.  But, try not to clutter it.  I love how this site is so simple and clean.
