Scared to ask but any chance of a status update ファブリス, How's the "get things done" attitude working out?

Been a while since we've heard any news on the subject, you know how to keep people in suspense smile

I also was curious, but I don't mean to be pushy as I know you are working very hard ファブリス。

Sorry for the lack of updates... I don't like to post news to say "it's not ready yet" >_<

GTD has been working fine actually, but it's something that applies to all your to-dos, not just website projects, so I spent a bit of time on organizing my papers, bills, etc.

RtK-wise I have been working ~2hours everyday at least for the last two weeks so it's working tongue

Trinity is delayed because I realized I can no longer continue with the old code base I wrote 2 (3?) years ago when I was learning php and started this site from scratch.

Perhaps because I was doing this on free time, and often in the evenings, I never took the time to write a proper framework for the site.

First there was no real separation of "framework" and "application" (this website). Once I implement a good separation, making a Chinese version of RtK or Trinity will be much easier and much more likely to happen.

Next, I was using "objects" and "models" seemingly randomly... even in Trinity, which is more recent and clearner code than the old RtK stuff, there are sql querries for example directly in the page scripts, because I didn't take the time to create proper "models" for kanji, reviews, flashcards, etc...

It's rather funny I think that I've kind of rediscovered object programming with a big project at work where I wrote ton of Javascript. On that project I realized things got much easier after writing even simple classes. When I was adding new features it was liking blocks falling into place... much easier.

So on the plus side, when this "refactoring" is done, adding features and content to the site will be much easier and faster.

So basically the overall plan now is :

1- finish writing website framework and refactor all existing pages to it

2- smooth-launch Trinity, i.e. make it available to a limited number of users for the first week or two, so I can iron out the bigger problems. This should help me release sooner and handle the initial feedback better.

Nice to see you're putting 2 hours a night in on top of your work and your own Japanese studies.

How exclusive is that list going to be for the beta stage going to be eh wink

Doh..

I just realised I could upload what I have and let a (very) limited number of users experiment with it, while I am refactoring. I will have to keep a copy of the development so I can upload some fixes on the old code base.

I could start collecting feedback and suggestions and address the most important stuff before the actual beta.

This weekend I need to stay focused on the refactoring stuff, but I'm going to see if it's possible to do that starting next weekend. I will have to keep the number of users really limited since there may still be some slow database querries and since the code does not fool-proof all data there may be php errors when you save invalid sentences or vocab lists, and such, all which should not show up even on the "beta", so let's call it "alpha".

I can't promise yet. I will confirm next Friday if it's possible or not. I need to take a good look at the database.

Ah, yeah, I've been reading GTD, but my only problem is lack of a good electronic organizer. My cell phone contract ends in June, so I'm debating between iPhone (meh), some sort of cell/Treo, or just getting a Zaurus when I can scrape the $$ together. For now, it's index cards.
