So I recently reached 2500 in the optimized Core deck (thank god for nukemarine) and it's been a tremendous help. In fact it's been the main thing pushing my progress in the past few months. I want to start adding words using yomichan now, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I feel like I HAVE to SRS every word I don't know unless they really seem useless/obscure. For now that isn't a big problem since I've been using 時をかける少女 which is quite easy and enjoyable. But I've also been dipping my toes into all you need is kill, which I'm hoping to read in its entirety when my Japanese is good enough. Anyway, what I want to ask is whether it's better to continue core with its very common words or start yomichanning and add some maybe more obscure words but enjoyably. Also I'd like to know if it's a good idea to SRS most words I come across, especially because it's easy with Yomichan.
Thanks for any help ^_^

There's no reason you couldn't do both Core and words added from yomichan at the same time, if you want.

I do think it's a good idea to transition away from Core to reading native materials as soon as you comfortably can, but that can take the form of continuing to do Core while also reading native materials without adding new words to Anki; or continuing to do Core while also reading native materials and adding new words from them to Anki; or switching away from Core altogether. Some people are really motivated by reading native materials even if there are a whole lot of unknown words, and some people find that really frustrating, and I think the right solution will depend partly on where on the spectrum you fall.

When I do intensive reading, my rule is that I add new words to my SRS, but then if I find myself forgetting and failing the word repeatedly, I go ahead and remove it for a while. (I do this manually, but you can just set your leech settings to be really strict.) I can always put them back later after I've seen them a few more times in context.

You could try only adding words you can't read - I find that if I can read a word, I usually remember it without any special effort.
