Hi everybody!

About 6 month ago I posted a crazy Idea and got lots of feedback from here and Reddit. Lots of people wanted to use the service. So I started building it. Since last week we are live in beta.

How it works: Set your study goals. Set your stakes. Get paid when you make it. Pay others when you fail. You need to use Anki to study (for now).

We are still in beta and I highly appreciate any feedback. So please let me know what you think!

You need to give more details here -- I'm not going to a shady-sounding site where I get a completely blank page if I don't have javascript enabled.  People are going to be very suspicious about "GET PAID NOW!" from someone with 1 post on the forum when the details are as vague as they are.

Totally understandable. Here a more detailed explanation:

1) You set your goal in hours/week you want to study using anki(more study apps & platforms coming later)
2) You set your stakes in $. For example 5$/hour missed.
3) After each week all pacts will be evaluated. If you missed it, you pay the amount pledged into the StudyPact pot. Afterwards all the people who made their pact, get their fair share paid out. More studying & higher stakes = bigger share of the studypact pot.

StudyPact has an anki plugin to sync your progress to the studypact server.

I saw a very similar site going around. Everyone bets money to lose a certain amount of weight by a certain amount of weeks. Can't do it? You don't get anything. If you win? You and the other winners divide the money.

I really don't get the point of this site though. Why should people get payed for using anki? Most users on this site are already or have been using anki since early on in their studies. I just don't get the point of betting money.. I guess it's cool if you're looking to make a little extra cash but it shouldn't be a huge motivation to do your studying. (You should be fueled by something else.)

As yudantaikteki replied, I'd need more information too. How do you prove that you met your goal? Could people just lie and say they completed the goal just to get some money? Also what motivated you to want to have users bet money on a flash card program?

We have an Anki plugin which syncs your progress to the StudyPact server.

StudyPact's goal is to motivated people like myself. Motivation comes in waves for me. Sometimes I am totally engaged for month and then I have a hard time even getting my reviews in. StudyPact helps me to keep a steady pace.

That's odd.
I remember the original thread, and he already had the studypact URL and a placeholder front page. This must be a new account, but why not use the same account as before? If nothing else post-count adds credibility (it really shouldn't, but it does.)

I'm not crazy about success being measured in hours... could get punished for being efficient, and also could be easy to game the system.

OTOH, you can't really trust client side software anyway so it doesn't actually matter -what- you measure, the system can still be gamed (unless studypact had its own SRS with substantial server-side processing.)

If it was done with Paypal I would go for it. For example I would pay some balance so that I can wager it. However, I have absolutely no intention of providing my debit/credit card information to a website that I know nothing about.

Sorry, for my lack of trust.

Can't this pretty much be abused by someone using some simple deck and just pressing buttons for 30 minutes a day...? It could even be automatized. A honourable attempt at making something nice, but people are goblins.

Hah, nice wordfilter. Goblins = a-holes.

Sorry tobyai, but for various reasons this rubs me the wrong way, specifically the below:

Generally speaking, equating "study" with a syncing program with Anki seems, well... yeah. How does this program function? What sort of user data does it have access to, etc.? There are many ways to access someone's system, and at the moment I'm finding it hard to trust a relatively out of nowhere website using money as a marketing point.

That and I take the opinions of most redditors as a grain of salt (no offense to any reddit users reading this, it's nothing personal).
