I think  that hiding stories that haven't had a chance to be rated is absolutely pointless. That way a lot of good stories will get less stars just because of lazy people that prefer old stories rather than new ones, even if they may be better.

Come on people, nobody will die because of scrolling down a bit once in a while. IMHO you are just spoiling the system.

I'm testing out the idea, as it was also asked by email a while ago. However I wouldn't want to hide newest stories when the page loads, that would defeat the purpose of having an area that shows the new propositions.

It's going to be hard to cram two columns of stories there no? You could do, but I don't think it would be very readable.

Anyway, check out the site news. You might still want to use your Greasemonkey script if you want to hide the stories permanently.

PS: do you use Safari? I noticed the Safari beta on Windows XP, uses a smaller scrolling value for the mousewheel which is annoying... haven't found a way to change it in the Perferences.

In practice you should copy the story because the author can edit his at any time. (The fact that the stars do not track the story updates is another problem, but not directly related to your suggestion.) I don't see the benefit of adding another tab there unless you'd star more than one story on most pages, and even then: you're supposed to use only one story for remembering purposes, so why do you want to filter the stories more by showing only a subset of your own voting?

If it's about knowing what stories you starred or which stories of you were starred, this should go in a list somewhere, but not in the context of a particular kanji.

I tried displaying the user's own votes but I didn't like the distinction it made, I had to use a "washed out" star to indicate unvoted and another bright one for the user's own votes, and I didn't like the extra distinction back then, I'll try again. It's happened to me to vote a story twice and realize I just un-voted it but this seemed a minor problem..

No, that's the point : if you copy a story to your "edit" space, you don't have to worry about the author changing his after some time.

If you copy a story you shouldn't share it straight away since that would create a duplicate, most people don't so this isn't an issue. Sometimes members republish a modified version of someone else's story where they added or modified elements to make it work better in one way or another, which is alright.

You have a point there. I guess I'm thinking more of the situation where you initially select a few stories, after the first reviews see what sticks, copy that one in your box and remove the stars for the others (or leave them as is to have a few alternatives down the road, when that 'sticky' story turns out to be most forgetable after all). A 'My Pickings' if you like. Worth a script?
