I always get hard-cover editions when I buy Japanese books because they usually have bigger text and a lot more room to write notes.  Usually pocket editions have no space for notes and the text is quite small.  Paperback editions vary.  Sorry, I don't know about Harry Potter specifically.

Thank you guys for your replies! Oh, I didn't know the paperback is smaller than the hardcover (and it's already quite small, did they really need an even smaller version? lol). Yeah, the pocket edition must be tiny and it's just not worth buying it around here anyway. I guess I'll go for the hardcover, even though I'm not particularly excited about that cover illustration, lol!
