Hi.

I'm currently developing an Android game called Kana Karate. It aims to help with vocabulary learning and training in Japanese kana and other languages (currently Spanish and French).

If someone here could try it and give some feedback in order to improve it, I would be very grateful. Also, please leave a review, if possible.

You can get it on Google Play from here: http://bit.ly/1dFaBq2

Thanks

I tried it out, though I don't think I'm the target audience, since I know kana already, and am not a beginner level learner. The game was very well done. The fights were nicely paced. Just fast enough to keep the player on their toes. A few things I noticed: First, clicking on "Inventory" brings you back to the main screen. Second, you might want to add some female playable characters. It's a little annoying when I play a game and can only choose from male avatars^^; Bonus points if at least one female character doesn't look like she's straight out of a エッチ film & has a determined look instead of a smile. Overall, great job and I hope your game does well!

make sure not to remove any unrealistic male characters though. Impossible musculature,  exposed clothing, etc. all of those are staples of video game designs and of course those things are perfectly acceptable by every person willing to complain about how female characters are designed in video games. Not at all hypocritical...

Both are just as bad... wink

Yes, please, please be the first video game developer to feature realistic bodies and clothing for both female and male avatars.  No skimpy clothing, no huge tits, no impossibly small waists, and no cantaloup-smuggling biceps, please, please, pretty please.

I personally enjoy unbelievably attractive male and female characters, thank you. Don't listen to people that have been conditioned to react as if that was somehow wrong. Maybe is it because the US passed a few years ago 50% of obesity in its population?

Do girls not buy games if the female characters are too sexy?

I would assume that video game companies make sexy female characters because they sell better to male gamers. It's a business decision. I guess female gamers, despite their bitching haven't stopped purchasing games with offending characters and games specifically made for girls just haven't sold well.

I personally enjoy female aesthetics over males. It doesn't bother me, and is actually what I'd want to see. Isn't this a topic though that could tie in with feminism? (Not a topic that I'd personally want to get into..)

@Bokusenou
The Inventory is currently disabled. I was supposed to lock that button, but I forgot ><.

At first, the game characters were supposed to have a more anime look. I decided to change it to a more realistic human-like appearance (and more SD for the matches) because it is a style that you don't see very often in games (for me, the mobile app market seems saturated with games containing anime/cartoon art style). Although the art quality will improve with new updates, the style will probably stay as it is. This is not a wise marketing decision, but... Well, this is my game, so...

I'm considering female characters, but since the concept of tournament is being used, I'm afraid that cross-gender would make the purpose of competition seem a bit off (AFAIK, except for 'EA Sports UFC', there are no women fighters on MMA games). It would be much easier if the game was more like Street Fighter. Of course, if this is something that will help me with the audience, I can reconsider it.

If you really enjoyed the game and know someone who can get some kana learning help with it, please share.

One more think. Do any of you know a good place to promote my game? I mean, foreign language learning communities allowing posts about learning resource stuff like this?

Thank you all for the feedback.
