Hello everyone! I'm looking for some advice on studying error correction. I started writing mini essay's (about 5~10 sentences) with a Japanese friend to practice more output, which I don't get much of, but I'm unsure how to study them. I usually just save them, re-read them, look up and note new vocabulary words and reference them again if I remember I used a word or a correction point for my next essay, but I feel this is not enough. I've considered throwing them into my Anki, but I don't know what I would put on the answer card because I have no English translation. I'm really enjoying the practice; it's a challenge for me and it takes me a long time right now to write, but I feel I'm already improving and seeing results. I want to use these corrections to their fullest extent. Any advice is appreciated.

You could start exploring different genres of writing:
-Narrative
-Descriptive
-Expository (Process, cause effect, research)

These would require different discourse markers and structure. You would be able to utilize different word forms in differing genres. Once you have found enough information regarding the organization, grammatical patterns you might need, and signal language you could create a list of these things to help remind you of the structure of the genre you are working with until it becomes automatized.

Another element would be adding a time factor, say 3 minutes, 10 minutes, 2 minutes:
Someone assigns a topic, 3 minutes to brain storm, 10 minutes to write, 2 minutes to edit with a dictionary.

A peer could edit some items, point out how it could work better. Then do another 3, 10, 2 timed re-writing session.

Written self reflection of how the process went, how you might change it, any miscellaneous thoughts you had during the process, or anything else.

I do something similar to this with some of my high school students.
