Also how do you make the little stars that people usually do. Or any of the various emoticons, Japanese style.
Repeat any consonant except n. You can also make a small anything (though not everything can be made small) by prefixing it with l or x, but that's usually only relevant for things like てぃ. For the rest, see Tip 3 here.
Additionally, てぃ=thi. And でぃ=dhi, すぃ=swi ... there's probably a list of these too, somewhere.
IME Settings->Romaji template (or table). You can even change them or add new ones!Another way: Kana input mode. Ironically, uppercase kana are little.
Stars: type ほし.The same goes for other symbols. おんぷ, さんかく, etc.As for kaomoji, type かおもじ and get a bunch.
All I get for かおもじ is 顔文字, no actual emoticons.

What IME are you using? Google IME is working for me.
Just the basic Windows IME. Good enough for me for the most part.
It's not a serious IME if you can't type little snowmen with it (てんき).

Which version of Windows? I get emoticons on Windows 8. Also, snowmen.
Use Google IME and support the snowmen. ☃http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL9SRgSN-lo
I get snowmen just fine in the standard Windows IME ☃☃☃If you don't, you need to follow Tip 4 in Vempele's link.
Nice link, soon I am going to be a pro at this IME stuff. ☃
