I think I just screwed up, or maybe I needed the reset

I was reading about syncing files in Anki to the server, as some files in my Core 6000k Optimised deck were not working. So after reading the documentation and learning that with a profile, all my progress would be saved to the server in case I needed to use another PC, I decided to do just that.

Ofcourse it gave a warning that all my current decks could not be synced since they were too different, but I did it anyway. I was only 327 cards in 6000 anyway, so a little bummed out about it, but it it means all the media should work now, then, ok.

If it's possible to restore all my previous decks and progress, with System Restore let me know. If it's at all possible to restore my progress period, would like to hear it.

I took the chance to go and reevaluate what I need and redownload some decks. I got:

Core 2k/6k Optimized Japanese Vocabulary
Heisig's Remember the Kanji (RTK) 1+3(not the one with all the readings)
Pokemon Names 1-649(lol)
Tae Kims Grammar Cloze Delete(new)

Is there any reason I should use the RTK Deck with the readings over the one I got now? Especially since I'm placing a higher focus on vocab now and learning the readings anyway?

For restoring progress artificially if I can't recover it, should I just add 100 new cards till I get to my previous point, hit 4 for the ones I knew I could ace and let it sort itself out?

I'm not going to keep this PC hooked up to the net all the time. Will this screw me up with snycing? Or did I really not need to sync at all? I really wanted to do it to keep my progress backed up to a server, but it seems now that I kinda screwed the pooch on that, but at least it wasn't done half way into the deck.-_-

There should be a backup somewhere. Mine are in Documents>Anki>(profile name)>Backup.

I also accidentally deleted my collection a while ago. Wasn't such a big deal. It's rather refreshing to start over.

Hey man, if you are using the "newer" Anki, you can select (under the top left/key option drop down) to "export" your deck/s- even including scheduling AND related media.

If you've got a flash drive handy, you could even export your deck/s ever single time you're down with using Anki for the day and completely delete the deck/s and import them from the flash drive you exported the deck/s to and continue as though nothing happened. (^^)

With my Anki set up, I've set it up to it doesn't sync unless I demand it to (my net connection it crap). I suggest that you pick up the cheapest thumb drive you can find and back up your deck by exporting it with the scheduling data option selected, so you've got a "save point" to load in case shit hits the fan, again. smile

When I noticed that syncing issues keep popping up I decided I don't want to use synchronisation with Anki. I came up with a workflow that looks more or less like this:
1. At evening, I edit new cards and learn them in Anki on my laptop.
2. After I'm done with the new cards, I copy the decks to my mobile phone and go to sleep.
3. Next day, in the morning, I do the reviews on my phone.
4. At the end of the day, before working with new cards, I copy the decks from the my phone to the laptop and the cycle continues.

You don't really need the syncing.

I have much the same workflow, except... I -do- use syncing. I just never assume that it can merge correctly and always have only one copy at a time that is ever the working copy.
I don't have any problems this way. Granted it's ignoring functionality, but if I can't rely on it then ignoring that functionality saves me headaches.

-Wow, that helped a lot. I was not aware of how useful that was, even though I bypassed it before. I just got everything back. Apparently I have it set to save 30 backups. I have no idea it saved EVERYTHING.

-Wow. I didn't even think about doing that, at all. I just need to get another flash drive now.

-Unfortunately I don't have a phone(that can do that), and I somehow doubt there is a way to do this on a DS/3DS, though I would actually pay money to have something like this for that.

Man, I love this place.

EDIT:

I'm still not sure why some media files are not playing in the Core 2k/6k Optimized deck. Yeah, I could record myself sounding out the missing parts, but that's just eh.
