And there are tons of free Japanese books and manga available. One of the top free books is an interactive, multimedia book for kids; you tap an animal, and its name is read aloud in Japanese and English, followed by a recording of the noise it makes.

It's a bit of a pain to switch between the US and JP stores on your phone without using the Cydia tweak AccountChanger TS, though.

Make sure you tell it to "not sync" to your new iBooks library.

To clarify: iBooks is Apple's ebook iOS app and store.
