White females and Japanese/Asian culture... the most unlikely of combinations. And yet, they exist. While WMAF couples (White male, Asian female) and white guys with an interest in the orient are so common that they no longer surprise anyone anymore, anything involving a white female and Japan/Asia still seems so alien and so fascinating.

This thread contains video links that fulfill the following criteria:

1) Person in the video is female.
2) The female is white, mixed race or non-full-Asian.
3) She is aesthetically-pleasing (IE. good-looking).
4) She has an interest in the Japanese language or has a non-casual/above-average interest in Japanese culture or Japan in general.

Any links posted in the thread deemed by me to fulfill the criteria will be appended to the main post (the one you're reading now). If possible, please do a decent short summary like I did so I don't have to.

Magibon
http://www.youtube.com/user/MRirian
Possibly the first person to really popularize this trend and the poster-child of it. Her main feature are her large mesmerizing eyes where you can only stare back or actively avoid it. She also likes pizza and long stretches of silence. She traveled to Japan to do television interview with Mari Yaguchi of Morning Musume fame as well as posing for some tasteful bikini photoshoots for magazines.

Exemplar video: All of them.

Beckii Cruel
http://www.youtube.com/user/xBextahx
A fan of cosplay and dancing, she burst into popularity with her Danjo dance cover warranting mainstream media exposure. She was also popular enough to travel to Japan to do a DVD, photobooks and magazine photoshoots. Her main feature is arguably her interesting accent which she picked up by being a resident of the Isle of Man.

Exemplar video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNFHFa4_PoI

MissHannahMinx
http://www.youtube.com/user/MissHannahMinx
A fan of multi-tasking: she likes to do exercises and practicising Japanese at the same time ("undou-suru!"). When she's not exercising she also likes to cosplay in clothes that accentuate her main feature: her cleavage.

Exemplar video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIt_hedcBTc

AppleMilk
http://www.youtube.com/user/applemilk1988
I don't know much about her but she's just as popular as the above ladies. One day she realized her dream and she went to Japan to do some gravure DVDs as well as aspiring for a music career. Her main feature is her needy ex-boyfriend she left behind who nostalgizes of times past, who owns a LiveJournal blog, and who claims not to be needy while showing every possible sign of being needy via said blog.

Exemplar video: ?

VenusAngelic
http://www.youtube.com/user/VenusAngelic
A member of the "looking like a real life doll" which is also her main feature. As well as being the most baby-faced of the lot, she also has the largest eyes, artificially/illusionarily-speaking that is (MagiBon still wins in that regard). Her other feature is that she speaks Swiss German, German, English, Spanish and Japanese. Koohii forums, eat your heart out.

Exemplar video: Pending.

Couples may be relatively rare, although I've seen more than one in the past week, but you could've tried turning on a music channel to see how "alien" Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift etc are. If you want mixed race, try standing under the 40ft billboard of Lola in Shibuya. If you want gratuitous (non-デブ) white girl cleavage, check the threads that always pop up on まとめサイト.

A few examples of average people who attained some level of fame in Japan doesn't really connect well with your introduction.

There's something about this thread topic that just feels kind of...insulting.

Is this a おかず gathering thread?

Just to confirm, I am not intending this thread to be a joke or for (overly) comedic purposes nor would I allow it to go that path. I just find the subject matter to be genuinely interesting and I also quite like the combination of two things I am interested in: Japan and females who are pleasing to the eye.

The other thread in this forum (Non-Japanese youtubers who talk about Japan/learning Japanese) was what actually sparked my idea and I thought why not centralize information about this phenomenon (white girls who are interested in Japan when they "shouldn't" be). And I don't see why my thread is any less or any more valid than that one.

Otherwise, I might be forced to make a thread that is more pertaining to the interests of this forum like who's language learning method is right or wrong, whether AJATT is a valid or invalid way of learning Japanese, whether it is immoral to be a 20+ something man and liking AKB48, whether fluent Japanese students are arrogant, and whether libertarianism/vegeterianism/insert other -ism is a harmful or helpful ideology.

Sorry, I don't know what you're saying here. Are you saying Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift are "aliens" (mixed race)? That's nice but that's irrelevant for two reasons:

1) I'm not saying mixed raced people or mixed raced couples look or seem alien. I'm saying
"white females and Japan/Asia" (note I didn't say Japanese or Asian people) seem so alien. Females are supposed to be interested in Twilight vampires, manly men from the latest Hollywood blockbuster, or boy bands or idols (Bieber etc), or whatever Western culture/thing they should be interested in. To reach over the ocean to Japan (land of the "culture of rape" and sexism and xenophobia) is what fascinates me and the thousands of YouTube comment box commentators.
2) Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift as far as I know, aren't really all that interested in Japan, therefore, for the purposes of the thread, I'm not really interested in them regardless of how good-looking they are and how much cleavage they expose.

Sure I'm partly interested in white girl cleavage but it has to be related to Japan in some way (HannahMinx etc) otherwise I'd just go to RedTube or whatever.

I don't know what Lola or Matome Site is.

Regardless, that's just an introduction and I think it is pretty clear what this thread is going for based on the links.

I would be way more interesting to see examples of the same female model but that are particularly not pleasing to the eye.

It does kinda seem to suggest that if you're a white girl who does YouTube stuff about Japan, your only real value is in being hot.

Why is this unlikely? Maybe it's unlikely for you to know many girls, but physical appearance doesn't have much to do with interests. Or do you mean to say, you're studying Japanese because you're ugly?

lol. Are you aware of how rude this sounds?
A mixed race or non-full-Asian, aesthetically pleasing female. Taken out of context, I would have assumed you're talking about a horse.

You make the most formally organized and structured threads about mundane topics that I've ever seen.

ich.

Well, i think there may be quite a few people on this forum who "shouldn't" be learning Japanese then. Shall we just post up pictures of our breasts and be done with it?

(Please don't answer that.)

I prefer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bX7pkdOorM because of the constant eye contact. Also double the fun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGeoHXnrZt4 has more style, though.

Added to list: VenusAngelic

There's another girl I'm thinking of that is popular in YouTube but forgot the name. She  sings Japanese songs in a monotone while staring blankly at the camera, and the video recording of her doing so is very crazy and creepy. Come to think of it, so is she. Anyone know who I'm talking about?

Pending approval.

The other links have been disapproved.

Please delete this thread. There's no correlation between race and interests, so I don't see how this is "unusual"; if anything with how popular anime and manga is in the west this is extremely common. If this is your personal hobby then what is there to discuss?

Dunno if she qualifies for your standards of misogyny, though.

My point was that white girls aren't alien in Japan. Plenty of them are more famous there than soulless goons like Hannah Minx will ever be, and were decades prior. Girls interested in Japan are outnumbered by guys, but I'd hardly be shocked to see a large number of them at any given comike event. What has sex/race got to do with it?

What we have left is white girls who like Japan and have minor celebrity in Japan. Taylor Swift doesn't like yaoi, and the female ota at your high-school haven't made it big on the 13.3-inch, so they're not even worthy of being objectified. A list of YouTube videos is fair enough, but why drag all the pseudo-sociological, evidently insulting commentary along with it?

NB: Lola is a ridiculously popular half-Japanese-half-Bangladeshi model. まとめサイト provide a convenient (纏まった) way of viewing new posts on forums/blogs like 2ch.

Thanks for your contribution. I'm afraid I'll have to disapprove though for two reasons:

1) Although she looks good for her age, she is not good looking enough to meet the standards of the thread.
2) Even if she was good looking to meet the standards of the thread, I would prevent the inclusion of the link solely based on your personal attack.

For the record I'm not a misogynist: Misogyny (pron.: /mɪˈsɒdʒɪni/) is the hatred or dislike of women or girls.

Whether someone is female has no bearing on whether I like or dislike them. However, whether that female is aesthetically-pleasing or not has a bearing on whether I view their YouTube videos with interest or view them with indifference but not dislike or hatred.

Hope that clears everything up!

I'm not seeing any YouTube links from you.

Javizy wrote:

Still not seeing any links. As for what gender has to do with it, you already mentioned why: girls interested in Japan are outnumbered by guys, hence that aspect is more interesting. As for race, Asians are more naturally culturally dispositioned to be interested in various aspects of Japanese culture (examples: the popularity of former Japanese citizen mixed-race Leah Dizon who is far more popular in Asian than her hometown of America, the importation of Kansai Enkou from Japan, etc) than white people so on that alone, it the fact that a white person saying he/she likes Japan is more surprising and interesting than an Asian person saying it.

Is this a somewhat thinly-veiled IceCream style personal attack via your insinuation that I'm a high school student?

I'm sure Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift are worthy of being objectified (cue IceCream saying they're not) but this is a Japan-related forum with Japan-related threads like this one, so for the purpose of the thread, they are not relevant.

Javizy wrote:

You just called Hannax Minx a soulless goon which I don't think she would appreciate, nor do you know her well enough to make such a comment true or not, and you made an ageist statement against high school-aged people everywhere, so why are you lecturing me on respect?

You need to learn to read past the 1st sentence.

Hope that clears everything up!

You have a tendency to make threads on this forum off-topic but I'll see if I can limit your "get the last word in" somehow. Anyway:

Misogyny (pron.: /mɪˈsɒdʒɪni/) is the hatred or dislike of women or girls. Misogyny can be manifested in numerous ways, including sexual discrimination, denigration of women, violence against women, and sexual objectification of women.

Point 1: "Misogyny is the hatred or dislike of women or girls".

I don't dislike women or girls.

Point 2: Misogyny can be manifested in ...(the)... sexual objectification of women.

Hypothetically, suppose I am sexual objectifying women.

However, misogyny requires two criteria to be met: dislike of women AND sexual objectification of women. I like women AND sexually objectifying them (hypothetically).

To use an analogy, if you have a cold, then you likely have a headache. But if you have a headache, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a cold.

Ergo, that is not a case of misogyny and I am not a misogynist.

Conclusion 1: I don't need to learn to read past the first sentence.
Conclusion 2: You need to learn reading comprehension.

Hope that helps!

People who value women primarily in terms of their sexual attractiveness are people who don't value women.
