I looked up the word 罪, which should have the reading つみ because that's the only reading for it I see in the bilingual dictionary, but the monolingual dictionaries only come up with ざい. http://dic.search.yahoo.co.jp/search?ei … ype=prefix It shows the つみ reading there too on the kanji entry page, and it's listed in the synonym dictionary, but I'm confused about why there isn't a definition page for the word with the reading つみ.

If you just look up a kanji without making it an exact search, you will get any word that starts with the kanji (in some order). Since 罪 is apparently used as the first kanji in a ton of words with the on-yomi reading ざい, you get all those results first. The entry with just 罪 read as ざい is the page containing the details of the kanji itself and is not a word as far as I can see. If you choose もっと見る, you will find 罪「つみ」 as number 31. One way to avoid having to run through all these would be to do exact searches (に一致する) or (depending on what you are looking up) just look up the word in kanas. つみ returns 罪「つみ」 as number 2.
