The punBB forum is lightweight and pretty fast already, but nonetheless someone mentionned Gzip compression recently, so I have activated Gzip compression on the forums.

Let me know if anything weird happens smile

Likewise, if you see any difference when accessing the forum from mobile phones or other portable devices, I'd be interested to know as well, thanks.

If it works well, I could use compression on some pages of the main site.

the forum always goes fast for me, but i only use it from mine home-pc.
on a side-note i would like to see "recent topic" list a bit bigger, its the way i use the forum most of the time and i am sure there are many others.

Yes the Recent topics is very handy, there's not a lot of space there though.

For a more complete list you can use the Show recent topics link on the forum index.

I would like a longer recent topics list also. As a compromise, could you hotlink the "RECENT TOPICS" title to the "Show Recent Topics" page? I think it would be seld-explanatory, but you could include a (<-- click here for more) if you felt it needed it.

I have been receiving this message at the top of each page:
Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING in /home/faburisu/public_html/kanji/includes/class.template.inc.php on line 464

Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING in /home/faburisu/public_html/kanji/includes/class.template.inc.php on line 464.

Is this related to the faster loading?

I get the same error when I view the main site from my blackberry pearls browser. None on the forums though

Thanks! This should always be set by the browser. In the forum code it says this could be unset by "Norton Internet Security". Out of curiosity, are you using it? I've fixed it anyway.
