wow, i haven't been on here in a long time! well, i have a (simple) question, and couldn't think of anyone to ask, so here i am.
i just re-re-re-started teaching myself japanese, and while this isn't really all that important, i'm wondering: what are some greetings i can use (as a girl) that are kind of fun and upbeat?
for example: things like おす！or よお！ or おい！that don't sound weird coming from a lady...
to be honest i'm not sure how commonly the above are actually used, but i'm sure you get the idea. (*´・ｖ・)

Girls in Japan are pretty cutesy, so I think a lot of younger girls just greet each other in a cute demeanor rather than with slang. I don't recall my female students using much slang to greet each other, usually just a cheery and cute おはよう like you see in anime/drama/etc.
When girls come and go from somewhere I've heard them say いってき and いってら as a cute way of saying いってきます and いってらっしゃい.
In general, slang greetings aren't used nearly as much in Japan as in English speaking countries, partly because social rules are more strict. Slang also seems a bit more childish to me in Japanese than in English (when Japanese guys that are getting to be adult age use a lot of slang they tend to remind me of obnoxious middle school boys on trains).

ah, yeah, i get what you mean. i don't want to sound immature! in english i don't use heavy slang, but with my friends i'll throw around things like: yo, what it is, aloha, just little stuff like that.
i don't want to sound like an obnoxious little kid, so i think i'll just stick to the standard variety of greetings for now, haha. thanks for the advice, Tzadeck!
@Mushi: i think my personality is probably just the exact opposite of stiff and conservative. heh (´∀`; )
