What are the most comprehensive and in-depth Japanese grammar references/sources available?

1. Japanese: The Spoken Language
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese:_ … n_Language)

2. Samuel Elmo Martin: A Reference Grammar of Japanese

EDIT: Not just for linguists though.

EDIT: None of these are meant for linguists, but they are (mostly) detailed grammar guides.

English Language:

Dictionary of Basic/Intermediate/Advanced Japanese Grammar
There are three books in the series. All are really good, though kind of expensive.

www.Renshuu.org Grammar Library & www.Jgram.org:
Both are good for quick lookups, though both are user contributed so keep that in mind.

http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar AKA Tae Kim's Grammar Guide:
Probably the best free non-technical grammar guide out there.

Japanese language:

It's all in Japanese though, and its intended audience is Japanese teachers. (Which is the kind of thing you want for really good Japanese grammar explanations in Japanese.

初級を教える人のための日本語文法ハンドブック & 中上級を教える人のための日本語文法ハンドブック are both for teachers, and are really good at explaining grammar. Together they cover up to around N2 grammar.

The standard for linguists is still Samuel Martin's Reference Grammar despite being somewhat hard to use.  This is definitely not intended as a reference for people learning the language the way the DXBJ books are.  In general, things targeted at linguists are not targeted at learners because linguists will often need to know things about languages they haven't learned and have no intention of learning.

Yeah I noticed that on amazon...seems pretty ridiculous; a library is probably your best bet for that book.  Even $110 is too much.
