1-seg, non-1-seg..

Hey all,

I want to buy a TV tuner here in Japan.

I noticed that many non-smartphone mobile phones here can show TV (through the so-called 1-seg thing), and most importantly, the TV that they show can have subtitles. Quite exact subtitles sometimes.
I would like to get that, so I was thinking of getting a 1-seg tuner for my laptop, but I think the 1-seg quality is worse than that of a normal tuner. So, I was wondering if a normal TV tuner in Japan would give me the ability to see subtitles as well.

Please let me know if you know. If anyone used a non-1-seg tuner in Japan and successfully got subtitles to display, the name of the tuner would be awesome to know.

In Japan there is only 1-seg and Full-seg. These are digital signals and I believe they turned off the analog signals. So there isn't any "non-seg" or whatever. If 1seg can see captioning then fullseg can.
