I just updated to ankimobile ver. 2.0 yesterday and I've regretted it ever since. It's way more complicated for no reason at all, it limits you to do only a 100 cards per day, doesn't allow you to review early, and takes ridiculously long to sync the decks to the web. I don't understand why they would put a limit on your learning process. It just doesn't make sense to me. I don't feel a learning program should restrain your learning process and just leave you stagnant and have nothing to do for the rest of the day. What if I'm going on vacation for a few days and want to go ahead so I don't have to worry about it? Then what? I HAVE to do Anki on my vacation? That's ridiculous! Another thing that pisses me off is the amount of time it takes to sync. Before. I could just press "Sync" when I'm done and it would literally take like 5-7 seconds and "TING" it'd bedone. Now, it takes like 5-7 MINUTES just to sync 3 decks. WHY?!!! Luckily, I had a mobile device yhat I didn't do the Anki update on. So, I just deleted the horrible update on the device that I updated andcopied the good Anki 1.8 onto it from the other device that had it. THANK GOD I didn't update Anki for both devices!! Anyway, this is just MY take on the update. Maybe other people find it better, but I personally, strongly dislike it and don't advise you to update unless they fix the problems I've listed. The old version is simple, quick, and easy and I now realize how great it is. All in all, I strongly suggest that if you use Anki, DON'T update!! I think there is a good chace that you'll regret it. I know I did.
It's my understanding that the 100 card limit can be disabled on the desktop version and I'd be surprised if that feature were left out of the mobile version. Even if so, I'd imagine you could disable the option on the desktop version and then that setting would sync to the mobile device.
I do share your sentiments in thinking that the x cards per day limit would be better as an optional setting to that could be turned on, and not the default.
It doesn't. They just tell u that 100 cards is all you can do (desktop AND mobile). It doesn't make any sense to me.

I just upgraded both the desktop and mobile (iPhone) to 2.0 and have had no serious problems. You can, in fact, change the number of reviews up or down on both versions for all or some of your decks (Options); 100 is just the default.
As for syncing, I find it is even faster than the old version. However, if you have a lot of media files associated with your decks, the 2.0 versions will attempt to upload/download all of these files to AnkiWeb the first time you sync, which takes some time. I had over 250MB of media files. There were a few errors reported during the initial syncs, but resyncing recovered flawlessly. The site is getting a lot of traffic now, and this morning I had a notice that it was too busy to sync - a few minutes later, no problem.
*.0 versions of software are likely to have problems, and Anki 2.0 is no exception. Anyone who doesn't like the idea of spending a day or two adjusting to the changes - that is, anyone who wants to focus on subject matter of the SRS rather than dealing with bugs and new "features" - might want to wait until a couple of fix releases have been made.
Seriously man? Grow a brain. You think Damien, the guy who programmed the original Anki that you love so much is just out to get everyone and is making Anki2 worse? Lol, where is the logic in that. Anki has been significantly improved in the new version, please read the FAQ's to understand the thought process behind the changes before posting things like this... especially on the Koohii forum.

The review cap can be changed on both devices.

Decks now have a limit on daily reviews as well, which defaults to 100. When the limit is reached, Anki will not present further reviews from that deck, even if there are cards waiting. When the congratulations page is reached, a notice will be displayed, advising the user that for optimum memory, they should consider increasing the daily limit. This change is intended to reduce the sense of being overwhelmed that people feel after returning to Anki from a break. Large due counts can be off-putting, and while it’s not optimal for a user to leave due cards waiting, if they give up in frustration that’s an even worse outcome.
No limit is applied to cards in learning, as the learning count is a product of the number of new cards and reviews that are done each day.
I have Anki2 on my computer and iPhone and I can say with my decks that have 10,000+ facts total and full media databases, the software syncs in seconds after the first initial full sync. Which the original Anki did the same thing on the first sync, it took a couple minutes to download the media.
I recommend Anki2 to anyone right now as its core structure is quite stable and there is only small bugs left in the UI to be fixed.
EDIT: Anki2 does sync faster too due to the new use of user profiles for storing all the decks instead of syncing separate decks. It allows for much smaller sized file to be transferred.

While it is understandable that it may be frustrating to get adjusted to the new changes, you might want to read up on a few of the key things on the user manual before upgrading to get used to customizing things the way you like. The 100 cards/day limit specifically can be changed just by accessing the options page for a deck (the gear on the homepage listing your decks; under the "Reivews" tab in the field "Maximum reviews/day"). Some of the performance boosts are amazing so I definitely don't mind learning how to get around the new interface. As for your 5-7 minutes just to sync 3 decks, the first sync may take a while because your media (if you're using any) gets synced directly to Ankiweb instead of Dropbox or something like that. Afterwards the sync should be fairly quick. If it always takes 5-7 minutes to sync then maybe it is incorrectly resyncing media every time.
You can review early but it isn't as simple as the previous "Review Early" button; you do it via the "Filter/cram button" which lets you use specific delimiters to narrow down the focus of what you want to review. (For example, to review all cards due in 1 day or less, you would input in the "Search" field "prop:due<=1" with or without quotes I believe). Yeah another change but ultimately it is more versatile in how you can review early or review specific things outside of the usual schedule.
Anki 2 boasts some pretty great changes but you have to deal with getting adjusted to the changes. If that's a deal breaker then so be it. It's not necessarily the case that things you listed are inherent problems/bugs with the program, but just executed/accessed differently in the new major update.
EDIT:
I forgot to mention that for me, the Ankimobile 2 update has insane performance boosts for me. My large, media-heavy decks that took sometimes 2-3 minutes to sync or just open before now take less than a second.

I must admit. I didnt like the update either and felt I was forced to upgrade(which if you need syncing access you are). However after getting aquainted with the new version iy is better. The sync brought back the uploading download functionality that ankiweb used to have which was great. A lot of things are better, some are worse. Most things can be remedied by reading the guide though.
I haven't uploaded to 2 yet because the website says:
"AnkiDroid is not quite ready yet. AnkiDroid (Android) has been updated for Anki 2, but it is still being polished for release and is in open beta. It is fairly stable at this point, but there are still some critical issues the AnkiDroid developers would like to get to, and they are currently quite busy. Adventurous users can download the latest beta build from the AnkiDroid page. If you're not comfortable with running beta software, please don't download Anki 2 yet, as the old AnkiDroid is not compatible with it."
Is that not correct or up-to-date? i put off troubleshooting some minor issues i've had with ankidroid in the hopes i wouldn't have said issues once i upgraded.
ps i thought your phone exploded or you at least lost all your progress in a deck based on your typo, wrong forum, all caps, and excessive exclamation marks.

This upgrade has been a huge pain in the but for me as well. The sync keeps crashing media is missing. A deck only has 2 options to press instead of the usual 4 (ie. easy, med, hard, again)
They (re)play button is missing for at least one of my decks on the desktop
The upgrade messed up some of my decks... They no longer show media
My ipod broke when I deleted Anki and restarted it (probably just a coincidence.. but its never happened before). -> forced upgrade to ios6
The documentation is poorly organized....
Been trying to fix things since yesterday... hopefully everything will turn out ok
If you haven't upgraded yet I would honestly wait a week until us guinea pigs are done and hopefully things will be better by that point

Can we please not post titles in all caps. It's also misleading, because your talking about AnkiMobile 2, not Anki 2.
Edited topic title. Left the exclamation marks for stylistic purposes.
Have you posted to the Anki support groups yet? Damien et. al. are great about responding to issues.

This is wrong and it just goes to show how many people haven't sat down and read through the new manual for Anki 2.
Reviewing cards is now broken into 2 categories. Learning and Reviewing. Learning is always a set number of reviews spaced the same a set interval distance apart, its specified in your deck options (This pertains to New cards). Learning only has 2 options to press. Its a simple pass or fail. After you have gone through the learning phase a card becomes a "reviewing" card and gains the "usual 4 buttons." If you fail a reviewing card it falls back into the "learning" category until you pass it again.

Thanks for giving me this info vix86 it is much appreciated. I stand corrected.
I have been trying to get anki2 working for the past 2 days and my decks aren't in condition to review yet. I am still troubleshooting syncing/missing media crap at this point. Finally synced anki2 to the ankiweb (after 10+ syncs)
Now Ankimini keeps crashing when I try to import my cards to it through itunes HAHAHAHA
You know you have a winner when the workarounds are broken too...
Ankimini is not the main Iphone app I believe, thats Ankimobile. In my googling as well, I can't seem to find and new updates to Ankimini either. The deck layout for Anki 2 has been so revamped that if ankimobile worked with the decks, then there is no way it would be able to work with Anki2.
I'd just wait for Ankimobile 2 to get working again.
Responding to a few points above:
- 5-7 minutes is abnormal, and I haven't heard anyone else experiencing that. Please try rebooting your device and router.
- An issue with AnkiWeb that was causing media syncs to fail occasionally has been fixed. Media syncing picked up where it left off so you could sync again to continue, but it should be more reliable now anyway.
- The AnkiDroid message is up to date.
- "The upgrade messed up some of my decks... They no longer show media" - This is covered in the change notes, which I suspect you did not read fully.
- "My ipod broke when I deleted Anki and restarted it" - apps can not break your device.
- "The documentation is poorly organized...." - I spent quite a lot of time on the docs. If you have any concrete suggestions I'm happy to hear them.
- "Now Ankimini keeps crashing when I try to import my cards to it through itunes" - AnkiMobile was in beta testing for some time, but inevitably some problems don't get picked up during the beta testing period. If you're on a non-iPad please make sure you choose the 'replace' option, and if you're on an iPad please wait until I can get a bugfix release out, which will fix a bug where the button fails to appear on the iPad.
Hi Resolve, thank you for the response. What would you suggest is the best way to do the equivalent of the old "review early" option? Also, I like to check my new cards remaining on ankimobile... But in the deck stats now I don't see that information listed. Is there a way to get it still?
You can review early via the filter/cram button, which includes a preset for reviewing ahead. As for total new card count, there's no way to find that on AnkiMobile at the moment except for adjusting your new cards/day limit I'm afraid.
If there are any other questions, it'd be great if you could post them on the Anki forums, as I know Fabrice doesn't want this to become an Anki support site.
Audio is supported on iOS. I'd be happy to help you, but please post about this on the Anki forums, as this is not the right place for Anki support.
Audio is supported on iOS. Check to make sure you files are completely synced to Ankiweb.
Jinx!
I love anki 2. now I can review my picture cards online! (I never tried to figure out the dropbox stuff for anki 1). At first the syncing didn't even work but after a few days it started working. So I definitely like anki 2 over anki.
I was satisfied with Anki 1 and didn't want to upgrade, but was pretty much forced to when AnkiWeb for Anki 1 was shut down. The learning curve for Anki 2 is a pain, and I don't need any of the new features.

I think this is a valid point. It was quite difficult for me to navigate through all of the information to find simple solutions. Maybe the trouble-shooting section can be more clearly categorized to be a bit more user-friendly.
The Anki Team of developers and users are the best. You will get plenty of help and advice from the AnkiWeb site. Getting used to an upgrade is difficult, but you have to just learn it or be left behind.
*Your accusation of there being a 100 card limit is wrong. Get your facts correct! I set my reviews to 300 per day. READ...READ...READ more and complain LESS...LESS...LESS..... You will go through life much more easily.

I agree about the complain less part, but I use Anki to learn Japanese, and I think I could read through a few books in Japanese before reading through the documentation of Anki 2. Sure I could spend the time to properly learn Anki 2 but I feel like that would be like putting the cart in front of the horse.
