Typing Japanese in Windows (Broken)

Hi guys, although i no longer use RtK anymore i didn't know who else to turn to with this question, i've searched over the internet and cant find the solution

Normally when adding Japanese to my anki deck i'd switch over to "JP" from "EN" on my toolbar and if i wanted to type the hiragana character for sa id just type "sa" however now as soon as i press "s" a different character will appear, i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Japanese but to no avail :'(. I havent switch keyboards or operating systems or anything like that, it just changed one day any, ideas how to change it back?

Would that character be と? If so, does your IME bar have the text "KANA" highlighted?

It sounds like you have it set to use kana input instead of romaji input, thus each character on your keyboard corresponds to a kana character. I don't use Microsoft IME (as you didn't state otherwise I assume you use this), so I don't know exactly how to change it but you should be able to change settings while in IME mode by clicking a button down at the toolbar and changing input from kana to romaji.

Alternatively you could switch to another IME like Google IME or Baidu IME which are arguably better (all up to personal opinion though).

If you're using Microsoft IME, you can change this in the language settings.

I'm on Windows 7, and I found it like this: Region and Language (type it in the start menu) > Keyboards and Languages tab > Change Keyboards... > General tab > Properties button (after clicking Microsoft IME on JP Keyboard) > General tab > Romaji input.

Alternatively, you could learn how to use the kana input. I love how it can reduce the number of keystrokes by about 50%; こんにちは, for instance, is typed as "byiaf" instead of "konnitiha".

Thanks guys i knew it would be something simple like this but i just couldn't figure it out. It was pretty frustrating not being able to add any new cards for awhile, got alot of work to do .

Typing じゅ takes twice as many keystrokes with kana input compared to romaji input though. Oh and to be nitpicking but if you type "konnitiha"　こんいちは will be what comes out

Yeah, the じゅ (three keystrokes) is the only thing that annoys me with kana input, apart from typing け when I am looking for れ and stuff like that.
The latter proves my point even further then. :p

Actually, if you type konnitiha, both the MS and Google IMEs will convert it to こんにちは. They have built in functionality to fix words that are missing a single N.
