Does anyone know a Japanese magazine (preferrably) or a blog dealing with critical topics/rant/flame/etc.? I feel bored by those beauty-standard-magazines, neither I'm interested in economy >_>;

Is there an equivalent in Japanese of this website for example? http://heartless-bitches.com/

Interesting. If for nothing else, it's taught me the following, which has the longest English definition I've yet encountered on Jisho:

草食系男子        そうしょくけいだんし     young men who are not competitive as in tradition male stereotypes, including in the avid pursuit of money and sex, and who may also be kind, co-operative and family-oriented

Now that's a mouthful.

草食系男子 has been a hot topic recently though...

Some are even blaming them for the decline in birthrate.

Yea, it contrasts with this one...

That was really interesting.
It kinda scared me, though. Japanese guys don't do that too, do they?

I think he was talking about articles that are 本音. Tori-kun is familiar with the difference I'm sure.

Edit: I replied without it finising loading. My bad. Funny comic.

I don't think these are Japan specific...

How about http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%95% … #12288;and http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%94%B7% … C%E6%A8%A9 ?

Also if you're interested in controversies and flamewars Tori, how about reading http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/731%E9%83%A8%E9%9A%8A, the discussion page for that article, and take a look at the English version? It is interesting since it highlights the racist and nationalist tendencies and how self(as in not state-enforced, though there's some of that too)-censorship often works in modern Japan.

The nationalists who deny Japan's war crimes are no different from holocaust deniers, and should be treated like the scum they are.

Haven't read it yet, but will. I'm posting it here because it says Honne on the title

Exactly my thoughts. There's all this talk about 本音 and 建前 as being part of Japanese culture and how controversial it is and blah blah blah... but a lot of these points (at least in this article) map directly into "normal" situations in american culture. If anything it seems like the Japanese people might be a bit more open with this reality of human social interactions.

its funny, that article is exactly the same in tone and subject matter as lots of these cheezy romance articles in yahoo news (eigoban).

the author sounds like a guy holding a large cluster of sour grapes...coming off a series of failed almost-romances, something ala fujimoto yukio in moteki. as kodorakun points out these 'tricks' are nothing exotic, except perhaps to inaka dwellers/tojikomori who have not spent much time with city people. if these girls are bad, please never leave the sheltered womb of tokyo (yeah right) because new york is much worse.

in my experience Japanese girls are actually much harder to read than their western counterparts... in ways not touched on by the article. not sure if it is related to tatemae at all, but they are very effective in hiding their emotions. men & women elsewhere in the world, although trying to hide, leak out their true thoughts unintentionally... microexpressions, communication patterns,  body language etc... japanese girls dont give away such telltales nearly as often or with as much reliability in my opinion.

Huh, I'd thought it meant men who are just not really competitive in general, not very assertive and maybe even actually kind of a loser, but that sounds more like they're genuinely nice guys.
*Goes to look into term a bit more*
