Resolve, I hadn't heard of "incremental reading".  I suppose you could just read it, if your japanese is good enough. But I was thinking of a lot of Japanese in one swoop.  I guess it would be good to filter out repeat words.  And being able to mark words as known(too easy) would be helpful. Hmmm, projects increasing past maximum potential...wink

blackstockc: that functionality has existed in simple form for quite a while. use the website to send an email to your keitai - the bottom link allows you to change the deck.

aikiboy: since i do most of my reading in firefox, i use rikaichan to look up new words, and to record the words into a file (i changed the 'record' key to 'space' to make it especially easy). i can then visit that file later in an editor and convert it to a CSV file for importing into anki

Resolve, that probably makes a lot more sense. Just read and store the words you want. Simple and clean. smile

After a busy 3 months, a new release out for Christmas (Merry Christmas, all!)

    * LaTeX support for equations
    * A number of scheduling changes
          o Cards are shown in order of relative delay, instead of deck order.
          o Support for "high priority": cards will go to the top of the "new" pile, but will not take priority over existing reviews.
          o Added a "final review" mode. When all cards have been answered but some cards were failed, these cards will be shown immediately instead of making you wait for a few minutes. This "final review" stage is indicated in the status bar, and you can choose to quit studying for the day instead.
    * A number of sync fixes - deleting cards should work better now.
    * "Undo" support
    * Support for changing the colour of text on linux/win32
    * Improved "new deck" dialog allows you to load a deck from online.
    * Add 'compact' answer button mode to keep more space for questions and answers
    * Add 'tall button' mode for easier user on a touchscreen
    * JPG/GIF support on Mac
    * Improved performance on x86 OSX due to inclusion of 'psyco'
    * The statusbar on win32 should now updated immediately.
    * Fixed issues with the recent files menu on win32
    * A scrollbar is provided for models with many fields
    * Improve autosave
    * Kakasi (furigana generation) should work on PPC macs
    * Strip HTML when searching
    * Allow multiline furigana
    * Show months instead of days for days > 30
    * Fix bug where exporting would prevent deck from syncing
    * Use default of 8-12hrs for hard cards in initial state
    * Fixes for 64bit OSes
    * Set focus to 'name' when adding new facts/cards
    * Stop main window from creeping down on Mac on each load
    * Don't show icons in menus on Mac
    * Fix ALC URL
    * Various miscellenous fixes

Can you share any more info on this?  I'm thinking of switching from RevTK to Anki for reviews so I can do reviews without a net connection, particularly on a Zaurus.

I'm planning on installing Debian on the Z, so then hopefully porting will be a non-issue.  If Anki was an official Debian package (and built for ARM), installing would be a non-issue too, though there might still be problems fitting it in 640x480...

Thanks.

Anki is a platform-independent package. It should run on Arm without a recompile.

(If you have debian and pyqt4 installed on the Z, you can run the full blown Anki with no modification. A more cut-down webserver version is only necessary for people who can't get Qt running.)

(The .deb labels it as 'i386', but that's just due to an error in packaging)

Hmmm, being the complete newbie that I am when it comes to programming (I have never worked with Linux sadly sad), will it be possible for you to post a tutorial on how you went about to get anki working on a Zaurus (if you are successful i.e.) along with the compiled version. Onegaishimasu ^_^

Great update, I'm especially grateful for the Undo function!

Ditto! Very nice: major thanks, resolve. Now if we could only get something similar on here...

I'm pretty pleased with the new scheduling logic. The scrollbars in the editor are also a nice improvement. Thanks for all your work, Resolve!

* Support for changing the colour of text on linux/win32

How that should work? When I try to change one kanji colour, it wont change.

I've been playing with the latex support and it's so sweet. It works perfectly as far as I can tell.
Now I can start using Anki for my university studies too!

Thanks again Resolve, Anki rules. big_smile

Unfortunately, it seems that it changes only the colour of new text, rather that already written text.

Indeed. It's something I've been wanting in an SRS for years.

Thanks for all the comments!

Yufina/Transic: consider it a bug. http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php? … _id=701801

Atreya: I don't have a zaurus personally. I'll ask the guy who did it when I next get in contact with him, but he's been very busy recently. Could be a while.

ご尽力とご配慮ありがとうございます。 (If that is the right way of saying it, thank god for the existence of ALC ^_^)

And before you know it, here comes 0.3.8:

    * More scheduling changes
          o Final review time is now customizable, and defaults to 5 hours. This makes it easier to study in batches, and the further reach gives you something to do while waiting for failed cards.
          o The "made a mistake" delay is now separated into young and mature times. By default, cards over a week that are rated "1" will be shown in 8 hours instead of 10 minutes.
    * Strange rendering of the 'edit cards' table fixed
    * Auto reading generation of Cantonese/Mandarin on OSX
    * Enable font colour selection on OSX
    * Correct font colour selection on win32 - selections now work
    * Fix New->Sync with online deck - correct deck is chosen now, and no error message
    * Fix crashes on PowerPC Macs
    * Allow undo on final card
    * No flashing 'welcome' message before your deck is loaded
    * Add a link to the forum in help menu
    * Don't give an error on Linux when loading a sample from a read-only directory

Thanks Resolve, I love the software.

I have a question to all, not sure if I should have made a separate thread or not, if I need to break it off into a seperate thread, I will, just let me know.

Has anyone tried Anki with the Nintendo DS Opera browser?  From what I hear, it's pretty slow and may not work with some pages.  I would love to hear of what you have discovered.

Thanks all, and Happy New Year!

The regular Anki interface doesn't work with the DS browser, but the simple interface is perfect.  I use it often.

The .cx registrar have suspended my domain without notice for the second time. I'm sick of their high prices and horrible service, so I will be moving Anki over to a new domain.  It may be a day or two before the website and syncing becomes available again.

You can restore access for now by adding the following lines to your "hosts" file:

69.93.41.133 repose.cx
58.3.183.73 anki.repose.cx

On Linux/Mac this file is /etc/hosts. On Windows:

Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro  c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Thanks Jimmy Seal.  I never noticed the simple interface before.  Went and found it on the webpage.  So, I'll pick up the DS browser to get this rolling.  Again thanks!!

Everything has been moved over to the new domain now. 0.3.8 points to the old
address, so I'll release a new version soon with an updated URL. Please let me
know if you find any broken links.

0.3.9 is out.

    * Updated Anki URI - fixes synchronization
    * Optimizations to scheduler. Delay between cards half of what it was in 0.3.8
    * Czech translations (thanks to the contributor!)
    * Fix for autosync on non-modified deck
    * Fixed erroneous reporting of 10 minutes on failed mature card
    * Preserve the selection in the editor when focus is lost
    * Disable live update in the card editor - considerably faster on slow machines.
    * A fix to avoid config file corruption
    * Behave correctly if an invalid deck is passed to Anki
    * Don't include suspended cards in number of spaced cards
