A RevTK "Lite" Option

Please forgive me if I've overlooked something obvious, but I'm attempting to compile a list of the RTK Lite kanji. (Basically, I'm marking them in my Remembering the Kanji I text and temporarily removing all but the Lite kanji from my Remembering the Kanji hardcopy flash cards.

Okay, so here's my problem. I know that the forum section contains some threads that supposedly list the JPT 2 kanji, and suggested lists for the RTK Lite option (when it was first being created.) I've found significant inconsistencies in those lists, though. I actually started by using the Greasemonkey script and going through the Lite kanji on this site, one by one, but my attempts were muddled by an (apparent) interesting quirk of the script. It appears that, if you start on an included kanji, subsequently displayed kanji are also included (Lite) kanji. But if you accidentally start on an excluded kanji, subsequently displayed kanji are also excluded (non Lite list) kanji. I got terribly muddled halfway through my attempt to inventory the Lite kanji. And attempting to cross-check what I had against lists of JPT2 kanji in the forums met with numerous contraditions and inconsistencies.

Is there a straightforward list of the current, active, updated contents of the RTK Lite Greasemonkey script's kanji list that I can double-check my records against? A simple, straightforward listing of what kanji are included in the RTK Lite script? That would be such a great help.

Again, please forgive me if I've overlooked something obvious, but there's such a volume of information in the various forum threads, and I haven't been able to find a list that doesn't contain inconsistencies or questionable items.

There's a list of the 1023 JLPT2 kanji in post #31 in this thread.

Also, in post #30 there's a list of 92 additional RTK kanji that are needed because they are necessary primitives for the JLPT2 kanji.

The RTKLite (JLPT2) script includes all of the above. Is that what you're looking for?

Thora- Thanks. I had already checked posting #31, but this list doesn't seem to actually (exactly) match the list that the current/updated RTK Lite script actually uses. There seem to be differences/ inconsistencies. Not sure, also, whether or not that list in posting #31 is completely accurate. (It may be. Does anyone know?)

Essentially, the kanji being produced by the RTK Lite Greasemonkey script doesn't seem to exactly match any of the JLP 2 lists that I've found anywhere in the forum. So I'm a bit perplexed. And I suspect that there have been changes to the RTK Lite script since posting #31 was made.

What I am REALLY looking for is a list of the kanji included in the most up-to-date RTK Lite Greasemonkey script. I doubt that I'm going to be able to get perfect correlations between the various JLP 2 lists and the actual Greasemonkey script-- but since it's the RTK Lite Greasemonkey script that I'm using for my kanji reviews, the simplest solution, I think, would be to get a list of the actual kanji included in that script. Thanks so much, Thora, for attempt to help!

Post #31 is a list of the 1,023 kanji for the JLPT level 2. It's taken from the official test specification book and has been checked, so there are unlikely to be any errors.

The 1,023 kanji in post #31 are a subset of "RTK Lite", so they do not match exactly.

RTK Lite = 1,023 kanji in post #31 + 92 kanji in post #30 (Total 1,115 kanji)

Contents of list in post #30 + #31 = 1,115 RTK Lite kanji. Understood.
Thanks so much to both of you for your help!

I edited the first post to include the info about post 30 and 31 having the Kanji list. Any other info should I add? Yeah, yeah, I know there's the wiki but work with me here.

You read my mind. Thanks Nukemarine. Including a link to Woelpad's Greasemonkey script "Alter Sequence" or to some explanation of it might also be helpful.

I combined the kanji lists in threads 30 and 31 (above thread), creating a complete list of all of the kanji included in the RTK Lite Greasemonkey script. Also fixed one tiny error: (宛 is 1417, not 1419).

I'm also seeing this bug with the "story" button ... here's hoping for a fix, when Woelpad has time to look at it.

I'm still having this issue, but only with cards I haven't yet reviewed (ie first review for that card). The story that displays is correct, but the actual flashcard that shows is for a kanji that I haven't yet added (but the story is for one which I have)

Script updated to change the story on the review page. You won't be able to edit the story though. With Fabrice announcing more updates, I'm loathe to spend too much time on this.

Many thanks for the update, woelpad!

One other small bug I've spotted: sometimes when I select a card from the detailed list of failed cards, the "Add to learned button" does not appear on the study page.

Thanks for fixing this woelpad. I hope that the future upgrades to the RevTK site will not cause too much trouble to "your" users. We are greatly indebted to you for your support.

I am again in trouble with the RevTK lite option : I have just tried to add some more cards for the first time after the site upgrade and I encountered some weird behavior. Since I was not sure of how to give the proper range of card numbers, I decided to use the "custom selection" option and explicitely provide the list of kanji to be added to my review list. This seemed to work : the program confirmed the list I entered, so I validated and went to review.
But the result was strange : if I click on "browse detailed list" and jump to the last page, the newly added cards are briefly displayed with their English keywords, then the display is refreshed and (non-RevTK-lite) kanji from another range appear instead, now with their keywords in French (I am also using the "substitute keywords" script). I have noted that the kanji that should be displayed (for instance "root" [frame number 1461]) is overwritten by "compacité" [frame number 903] which turns out to be assigned the "Sequence#" 1461 (as indicated in the rightmost column of the list, and also at the bottom of the "study" card). I have checked the list given in the "Manage/Remove cards/Select from" list and here everything looks fine (right kanji, right numbers, French keywords). I was also able to remove those added cards using the latter option.
The point is that this flaw affects the review process since the wrong cards are proposed for review.
I am sorry if this looks complicated but I did my best to explain it in English :-(
Did anybody hit such a problem? Could you woelpad find the time to have a look and see if it can be fixed? Thanks a lot.

Added : I have tried to add a single card and ran into the same problem : if then I try to "review new card", a different one is presented (with the same number relationship as noted above).

Since nobody replied to my previous post, I am asking for help again. The situation is that I am stalled in my study because I cannot seem to add any new cards without getting the wrong type of keyword-kanji association I described previously. Reviewing the existing stock again and again is certainly excellent for memorization, but also somewhat frustrating…
Help and/or suggestions welcome. Thanks.

I don't think you need to do this (and suspect it may be the cause of your problems). Probably you should use either custom selection, or KanjiLite. I'm still using KanjiLite, and most bits are still working correctly, after wolepad's latest fixes.

Thanks fugu68. I have now tried to add just 1 card ("+1" in the "manage" tab). The program then proposes me to add the kanji #1007… which is already in my learning list, the reason being obviously that I currently have 1006 kanji in the list : the last kanji is 1425 印, which has "sequence#" = 1006 in the "browse list" display (I have "RevTK lite starting after frame 514" defined in my profile).

I have no idea what I could try now — furthermore I am afraid of scrambling my review scheme if I switch between different settings :-((

Well, I have Sequence set to RevTK Lite starting after frame #1 in the Profile. I had 900 cards in my list (actually I haven't added any more since the site redesign).

Now, I just tried adding another 5, by entering 905 from the Manage screen. (Ignore the kanji that are shown as you add them - these will be shown according to the original frame numbers.) However, if you then check in the Detailed flashcard list, you should see the KanjiLite characters just added. For example, sequence number 905 is frame number 1555 (生).

Does this help at all?

I can't remember, did someone post a 2001KO variant of RTK Lite? I'm asking because I looked at the sorted Core 2k sentences and noticed that Book 1 of 2001KO covers the first 1400 sentences of Core 2k. There were about 55 Kanji that weren't used in the sentences.

It stands to reason that an RTK Ultra Lite based on the first 555 kanji of 2001KO (perhaps 40 supporting kanji as primitives) could be extremely useful to people starting out.

Example road map could be like before, but more evenly spread out between Kanji, Grammar and Vocabulary:

1. RTK Ultra Lite pt 1 (KO2001, 1-555)
2. Tae Kim Basic
3. Core 2k sorted (1 - 700)
4. Tae Kim Essential
5. Core 2k sorted (701-1400)
6. RTK Ultra Lite pt 2 (KO2001, 1-1110)
7. Tae Kim Special/Advanced
8. Core 2k sorted (1401-2000)

I don't know the answer, but it would be great if the site could support these defined subsets natively, rather than relying on the greasemonkey script.

Quoting from woelpad http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=119&page=6
"I do start to feel like I'm keeping a dinosaur alive. The custom selection feature on the Manage page should make most of this script obsolete, but I haven't figured out a transition scheme nor does the site allow yet to select predetermined sequences."

Yes it does :-))
Not for the faint of heart !… I was afraid of seeing lots of undesired kanji popping up right in the middle of my list but indeed, this just does the job : close your eyes, cross your fingers and click "ok" ! Hopefully future releases of this site and/or Greasemonkey scripts will polish it up a bit.

Thanks for helping. Now I can proceed to the next chapter.

for anyone (re-)starting rtk lite ko-variant in anki, the following can be used to add tags to the required kanji so the rest can be suspended:

Code:
awk 'BEGIN {while(getline < "kanji-rtkliteko2001.txt"){t[$1]="rtkliteko2001"}} {print $0 "\t" t[$1]}' kanji.txt > kanji-tagged.txt
where kanji-rtkliteko2001.txt is from kanji-sort, kanji.txt is your exported facts, and kanji-tagged.txt will have an extra field appended that you can map to tags on import

I think the kanji n. 1113 甲 has to be added to the list of primitives (for kanji n. 1114 押)
