I clicked on the thread, excited to hear about how often fellow Japanese language learners are copulating. Disappointingly, the thread is a mere tabulation of the male:female ratio. I cordially invite those interested to post their weekly/monthly/yearly sex ratios as well. We can then challenge other forums and determine who copulates the most/least frequently. Thereafter, we can set weekly/monthly/yearly goals and hold competitions against other forums. Given the dedication of many of our users, I'm confident we will put up a stiff competition. Just catching up. Thought this would be a silly thread, but it's kind of interesting. Nice to know lurkers are willing to comment. Now I'm wondering if females prefer class methods while males are more willing to go the individual study route.

I've seen similar results with CrossFit where the class version (called boxes) have lots of female members while most guys train on their own in gyms or their garage. Since there's been a study on everything I'm sure there's a study on that.

Interesting. I once took a gender studies class because I needed to drop a class in a hurry and it was the only thing open, but I actually learned some interesting things in it.
In the course, they said how from a young age women are pushed to do things with friends, while men are pushed to dive headlong into their (often solitary) interests, or at least doing something on one's own carries less of a stigma than it does for women, which explained why a lot of "geniuses" in their fields are male. Most of the time getting good at something has to do with getting lots of (solitary) practice.

I think that AJATT and such will appeal more to a person who likes doing things on their own, and doesn't depend so much on a social circle & fitting in (aka intrinsic motivation vs. extrinsic motivation).
Myself, I've always been more of a loner, tomboy type who preferred improving my skill at something rather than partying/shopping (which I dislike), so RTK/AJATT was just the hardcore method I'd been looking for. ^-^

Right! I think it's the same reason why my college anime club is a little less than three quarters guys. If women are encouraged to avoid solitary pursuits, and rely on a group of friends to do everything with, then they will tend to avoid anything that is not considered mainstream within that group. I love anime, and don't care if anyone knows it or not, but I know other women who are ashamed of being anime fans because it's not mainstream, and they are scared people will judge them. And if anime isn't mainstream, language immersion, outside of a class, is far, far, from mainstream.

Same here! I've always been the type who explores new things alone, prefer self-studying and dislike group studying for exams. What you said above reminded me how I used to play by myself half the time as a child, it's nice to see the connection

The anime club in my highschool was 100% women. And when it comes to local cons there's roughly 70% of them who are women (and let's not mention that a good part of the guys are there to pick up women/brought there forcefully by their girlfriends). It happens. We have a 90% women/male ratio in class, but that's because we generally have that ratio with general Humanities. We tend to push all the boys to be good at Maths and all the girls to just be studious. Sexual equality never really bloomed here, though.

Of course you count Don't be thinking like that, it's that kind of situation when a community has a bunch of "regulars" and others feel like their posts aren't really needed that we get low activity despite a high amount of viewers.

Well maybe we don't have an insane amount of lurkers like we discussed on the last page, but whatever, it's still a welcoming forum isn't it?

It's not like all the lurkers are female, there are just as many male, you're a perfectly valid part of the sample And as 2mc said, it's a very welcoming forum (friendliest I've ever seen)

male lurker. i usually reprimand myself for not doing reps when i'm on the forum, anyway. i've never taken a class. of the few fellow learners i've met in person, the majority have been male.
