I made a xml file with UTF8 encoding and windows format, no dice. I swear I have bad luck with technology, this kind of stuff always happens.

Would uploading the favorites file to mediafire work?

The text provided in the favorites.xml is Shift-JIS. SopCast apparently expects Unicode. I had to use NotePad++ to convert the file from Shift-JIS to Unicode to make the text display correctly.

out of all those channels available, which one is the best for practices casual listening? I don't want news or any other formal programs.

Sopcast looks really good, but, with NTKTV you don't need to be awake at daft-oclock to watch your favourite shows as you can select anything from the last 10 days.

If you don't want to configure anything, just use NIJI although you can use only Windows Media Player.

No thank you. I don't think anyone will want to pay to use NTKTV with less channels and constantly clicking when there is Sopcast offers more channels for free and continuous streaming

Fixed that for you.

There are many reasons why some people would want a paid-for service.
For example, NTKTV is a legit service, whereas SopCast is probably piracy effectively.

Secondly, you don't need to be awake at 4am to watch something actually worth watching.

Thirdly, having more channels doesn't necessarily make it a better option for everyone; Sky TV has hundreds of channels, but I personally only ever watched 3 of them. AND, given that you can choose ANYTHING aired over the past 10 days on the 7 channels, you actually have 1680 hours (minus the downtime of channels that go offline at night) of TV to choose from at ANYTIME on NTKTV. On Sopcast you only get to watch what is on when it is on, if you are awake.

And finally, you have to click a new stream every hour... big deal! What happens when a program you are enjoying on sopcast ends and you want to watch something else on a different channel? You need to get up, and click...

I'm sure there are also people who prefer WIST that allows them to record shows, is significantly cheaper, but has poor software, and poor video quality (in my humble opinion).

There are lots of options to choose between. I'm not saying NTKTV is a better option for you or anyone else out there, I'm just saying that I use it, and I feel it's worth the cost associated with it.

He's a relatively new troll to the site (see his ridiculous threads in the OF forum). I'd say your best bet is just trying to ignore him, that's what I do. Eventually he will go elsewhere.

You're right, I guess I mistook the absurdity of it for yours. My mistake. That being said I do appreciate this thread because I learned of SopCast.

Just click on the download button, and then copy the file into the SopCast folder located in Program files.

This is really nice. Its much more user friendly than SopCast. I'll be using this one. Just wish it wasn't limited to windows media player, but its not really a big deal.

i looked into this. as far as i can tell, there's no equivalent to favorites.xml on the mac. however, the latest mac client has support for opening sop:// links, so you can just format the xml list as html, and open it in your browser and click from there. or for even better integration, you can drag the html file into the sop client's channel list, and it will display there. here's an example of that xml converted to html for you: http://pastebin.com/kKZEVjv9

Totally works! Awesome, thanks.

Now the only thing I need is to a way to view the video in VLC so I could force the correct display ration. The built-in player has the picture squished from 16:9 to 4:6. Not a huge deal but a bit annoying.

I registered an account this am without problems.

I've tried both SopCast and NIJI, and I have to say NIJI is my favorite so far. Easier to use (no messing about w/ config files), and faster download/rendering (at least on my system). Some gaps on some stations, but generally a better experience.

Welp, I'm off to watch some Japanese TV. See y'all sometime in 2014.

Is Tokyo MX available on that favorites.xml going around?
