Hi, I bought a Japanese 3DS a few months ago along with ゼルダの伝説・時のオカリナ and メタルギア3DS. I played most of the way through ゼルダ, and the first chapter of メタルギア, but in the end I had the 3D effect turned off most of the time, and the device itself was awkward and painful to hold for extended periods.
About a month ago I learned that the old Atlus game デビルサマナー・ソウルハッカーズ(以下ハカーズ) was being re-released on the 3DS, and about the same time that Nintendo had already come out with a hardware refresh for the (still brand new) 3DS! I've tried playing ハカーズ on an emulator a few times, but never got very far (mainly due to my Japanese level at the time). I decided immediately that I would get the game, but was really torn about the console. $300以上 is a lot of money to pay for effectively what I already had.
In the last few weeks though I've worked a lot of overtime and made a bunch of impulse buys, so I decided to get both. They arrived yesterday, and I was impressed enough I felt the need for a いいゲーム報告. Thus this.
First off was the small issue of transferring all my data from one device to the other though. In a brilliant strategy a kin to their region locking policy Nintendo decided that no user data can be shared between 3DS devices. Not downloads, game saves, even your virtual money is tied to the device it was added on... So with saves from two games and 2千円 in credit needless to say I felt the need to transfer everything to the new device. Nintendo did provide a データ引っ越し data moving option on the devices. It copies and deletes data from one 3DS to another while connected to the same wifi AP with an internet connection to Nintendo HQ, and can only be performed 5 times per device. All that said the procedure wasn't that hard, the 日本語説明書 were easy enough to follow, and the transfer took about an hour to complete.
The 3DS LL is for me a big improvement in usability and performance over the original. The buttons and controls are generally improved, and fit my big adult American hands much better. The increased screen size has also made the 3D effect easier to see and viewing bearable for longer periods. All the features and the OS are the same as the original, only the form-factor has changed.
As for the game, it is very nineties retro and the atmosphere is as dark and creepy as you would expect for a SMT game. The updates made while porting to the new system are mostly minor - Subtle 3D effects in the animations, dialog boxes float above the pixelated original backdrop art. The main addition though is also the most important (for me at least as a JSL student): It seems like voice work has been added to practically everything in the game! Even down to the random people on the street you get a portrait, dialog box, and good voice over work! For me this makes the dialog much easier to follow, and helps connect words I know only by sight or sound together. プロチップ - on the start screen if you go to voice options the second option allows you to turn of the dialog auto-play so you have a chance to puzzle over any words you didn't catch in the dialog.

TL;DR: 3DS LL is a big improvement over the original, Nintendo's policy makers suck, ハカーズ is awesome if your into that sort of thing.
