~Pimsleur-ish Intervals in Anki - HELP PLEASE

#1
Anyone know why "Learn Mode" doesn't work with Anki 1.2..something (the most recent one)? I really just want a decent way for "learning" with Anki, via small same-day Pimsleur-like intervals (ex: 30 sec, 2 min, 5 min... or whatever), preferably with the option of sending to the next day at any point I comfortable with that card.

I tried changing the settings so the first time you press "1" it's 30 seconds, but the card doesn't show up until after you all your other reviews (or am I doing something wrong?!).

Is it possible to adjust the settings to work like this? Is there ~simple code that someone can pass me?

This is possible in Anki 2, try that

I tried Anki 2 but idk I didn't really like it. It messed up my cards (like randomly some of fields were switched, among other things) and plugins. I'll switch if I have to, but are there any other options?

If it is, I don't know about it... But I think you'll like Anki 2 if you give it time and get used to it. And of course fix the upgrade glitches, of which I assure you mine are far greater ._.

What I did was just create a new deck called "Learn Deck" and changed the intervals to make it like the plugin. Someone on here posted these awhile ago, don't remember who, I just saved them in case I might need them later. I don't know if these are exactly like Pimsleur but I think this is what you're looking for.

Put these in the Deck Properties > Advanced settings for your "Learn Deck"
Again (Young): 0.0166666666667 mins
Again (Mature): 0.0166666666667 mins
Failure Multiplier: 0.0
Initial Hard Interval: Min= 5.787037e-05 Max=0.000115740741 days
Initial Good Interval: Min=0.000115740741 Max=0.000173611111 days
Initial Easy Interval: Min= 0.000173611111 Max=0.000231481481 days
Show failed cards early: Yes
Max Failed Cards: 20
New day at: 4.0
Suspend Leeches: No
Leech Failure Threshold: 10

I just thought about making a separate learning deck, but wasn't sure about the details, so thank you.

Only problem is that you need to know when the next cards are ready, since they won't be coming up automatically in your review deck..

Edit: I think I got it about how I want it.
-I found a plugin that adds new cards to the reviews without waiting for you to start a new session. Adjusted to the above time intervals
-I set review cards to show the smallest interval first. I set new cards to show first.
-I set new cards to 10 at first. I set the session question number limit to 40, that way I can learn new cards first, review some old ones (and those new ones I just learned with short intervals), and will finish, being sent back to the review screen where I can change new cards to 20 (so it adds 10 more). Now I can alternate new cards and reviews for the most part automatically. This is great Smile !

First time I was studying Japanese, I used a written vocabulary list method (if I remember correctly, you memorize chunks of 7 vocabulary words at a time) to memorize vocab before adding them to Anki, but now that I have Ankidroid on the go, I want to study new vocabulary in Anki. On Anki website, it's said to keep pressing again until you memorize the word, but then, it will take a day at least to review, after which it will definitely decay from my memory. I've read that Anki 2 has learning mode, but I can't move to it yet because the mobile client isn't ready yet.

Is my only option is to change the initial interval of the deck and continue reviewing it, or are there other options?

How well do these settings do:

Thanks

Edit: I've read about learning in Anki2 user manual and I think I will try to make similar behavior in Anki.

I've tried those settings yesterday and the amount of reviews is just too much! Initial failure-> 8 seconds-> 17s -> 30s-> 1 min->3 min->... something like that so I had to review every word I learned 7-10 times in the past 24hrs! But I had very little failures. It took me about 75 mins to memorize about 30 words (getting all words past the 30min interval). Is that too much time? And do you suggest any other way to study new words in Anki?

Thank you!

Yes, it's too much. This is easy to do in Anki 2 with filter decks; try making one with intervals 0.5, 9, and 90 minutes. That should be enough IME. Of course, you can alter that at your own discretion. When you're done, just review them next day normally. (I set the initial spacing to 4 days.)

I assume if you want to do that in 1.2 with the method described above, you'd just have to tweak the initial intervals to whatever is appropriate, converting minutes to days and such. I don't think you can add a series of exact steps like in 2.0 though.

Yes. But it's hard to obtain a schedule similar to Anki2's by changing the initial interval, but I'm planning on modifying them creatively by using the 2, 3 and 4 buttons as steps of intervals with big difference between them and choose wisely when reviewing.

Either that or AnkiDroid will be good enough soon!
