Omedetou stevesayskanpai! You'll be posting in the 3/4 done before you know it (actually before we know it, silly phrase, isn't it?)

Just passed the halfway point, too.
It took me just about 2 months including a 2 week lapse of not studying, and another 2 weeks of super slow progress before I found this site. Thanks for all the help, everyone! It feels awesome to finally start to "get" kanji, if that makes sense. I'm hoping to keep up my accelerated pace and finish in 2 weeks. 頑張ります! No time to waste with the next 2kyuu test in 3 months! Only 10 points away and kanji WAS my weak point.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Never imagined I'd join these ranks, but I added #1026 into the mix last night, just finished my review, and am now halfway through!
I'm glad I followed the directions and came up with a suitable "person" for the last set of kanji. I didn't think it would help, but I was wrong.
Congratulations to all the rest of you! See you in the #1531 thread in a few weeks hopefully! But for now, it's on to ... "monme?"
Maybe I really will be able to read this language before I die.

Machine_Gun_Cat Wrote:お前らの漢字は完全に我々の物だぜ。Would that be (my best guess, and sorry for roomaji, can't type in Japanese here at work) "omaera no kanji wa kanzen ni wareware no mono daze," or basically, "All your kanji are belong to us?" (I admit I had to look up "kanzen," I guessed "zenbu" at first, glad I double-checked.)
Maybe I really will be able to read this language before I die.

Hi!
I am also halfway through (actually on 1270). I have used over a year, but do not rush it. Perhaps the second part will be faster :-P

HA! Just got to 1026, and it's taken me one, tedious-put-everything-else-on-hold month. Every free moment I got was spent doing this. No TV at night, no shows - period, no social calls to friends (I wonder if they'll still be there when I'm done?)... @_@ But I'm on schedule. I should be done by the end of April.
I've been making manual flashcards - you know, the tangible kind that you flip through with your actual HANDS. @_@ So time-consuming, but I'm a mom (is anyone else out there trying to do this with kids??). I can't sit at the computer all day. But I can study my kanji while my older kids are studying homework, and I can read RTK and visualize while chillin' with my babies as they play with their toys.
But I'm having some serious hell-yeah moments.
Can I tell you how COOL it is to start recognizing all these Chinese symbols on items I have around the house? The sign for East is on my can of Chow Mein, and my rice bag had a seven-kanji description on it and I knew five - oh yes, FIVE of them - and they made sense. Ha!
Woo - hoo! I'll review for the next two days, and then tackle another 250 or so, and it's downhill from there.
ryuusei86 - I know what you mean about person. I just imagined my brother-in-law in 76 different awkward, humiliating, and demeaning stories. lol. If he ever sees the flashcards I've written up, he'll be all, 'wtf?"
finethankyou - you and I are running at about the same pace. I hope to see us both posting the 'congratulate me' thread by May! Giddyup!

Man I am at number 1182. I am so damn excited now that I can actually get some feel of what most kanji mean when I see them. Congratulations to all who have made half way! This kanji learning is definitely something that takes a lot of motivation and perseverance to accomplish.

HALF WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow I feel like I broke through a wall yesterday. It took me almost 4 weeks to go from 950 to 1000. But today I've already done 21 and am on a roll. Hopefully I'll be posting in the 3/4 thread soon. I'll be exiting this one and going there for further motivation
Congrats all who came before and all who will come after! Woo kanji!

Not exactly halfway, but just reached 1000 (Just did 108 of them today). Hopefully with all the free time I have I'll be able to finish the book just before the week ends from my spring vacation.

Just finished lesson 27 - 1026 green cards... 150 in the first pile, which are a bit shaky, but about 700 in the last pile. Wooohooo!!! Now I'm gonna bitch-slap the next 1000 til they call me Daddy.

Looks like the class of April 08 is going to be a big one, too, with all these people piling into half way and setting ambitious goals for kicking those last 1000 into line pronto

Well, I hoped to be closer to the 3/4 thread by now, but here's confessing that I have yet to cross the 1100 line. With work and other things, I've barely managed to add another 50-60 kanji since my last post. On the bright side, I haven't missed a day of reviews yet, not even once, and not even when I was out of town for 10 days. This has really whittled down those earlier piles. So I don't feel it's wasted time.
Frankly, with the end of the semester coming hard and fast, I'd be glad to get to the 3/4 point by the end of May and to have all RTK1 kanji entered into the system by the end of the (Northern hemisphere) summer. At the 3/4 point I'll probably consider whether to buy RTK2 and/or RTK3.
And I realize it isn't a race, so let me congratulate the upcoming class of April/May, and I'll catch up to you eventually.

Yesterday i added up to frame 1047... i slowed down a bit in the last days as i had some problems memorizing various Mr.T related kanji. I'm getting retention of 90-95% in the 3rd and 4th bin, less for the recently added cards
It took less than two months to get there, i think i'm doing good... I admit i'm getting a bit tired but i'm keeping the pace with my reviews.
I'm sure i'll reach the end now
I'll just have to memorize a kanji for every one i already know after all!
Can't wait to start some sentence mining..

I'm a bit over half way right now. Have been feeling tired since around 600 but as I started approaching the half way point I got a boost in energy from somewhere. Now I'm back to feeling tired again, but I'm already used to ploughing along regardless of how little energy I have...

Hi everyone, I've been visiting this site and reading this forum for a while now, it has helped me a lot with stories and motivation. I just wanted to say i reached 1026 after starting Heisig a little more than 3 weeks ago (for the second time). And this time I'm going to finish it! I must say the Mr T chapter was quite easy for me, the wheat and rice ones were the ones i struggled with the most. It feels good to be halfway through!!! Everyone keep studying and reviewing, see you at the end, godspeed!

Ahh, I was hoping I might be able to catch up a bit more as I fell behind, but I had one of those 'meh' moods for a few days, but then I got it together again and now 1026 is in the first box as last.... Now I'm counting down, it hasn't quite sunk in yet but I am relieved I have had the willpower to reach this far. I am too far forward to stop here.
See you at 3/4.

Yea!
Last night I crossed the threshold of half-way (Umbrella) and into the obscure lesson 28 full of unrelated, albeit down right odd, kanji (with the exception of Night & Year). I never in my wildest dreams thought I would do anything similar to RTK in my lifetime and certainly never thought I would embark on such a task. Hopefully Heisig is right and the worst is behind me-- regardless it feel's good to be over 'the hump.'
1,004 to go!

Yeah, congrats. I'm at about the 1,600 mark myself. Just remember that this site is called REVIEWING the Kanji. This may be "wrong", but I don't really put a lot of brain cells to work when learning a new word/element, because I know I'll need to review it...maybe 3 or 4 or 8 or 9 times.
In other words, reviewing every day is key. Skip even two days and that orange pile gets into the hundreds and it take HOURS to get it to zero.

Just added and reviewed up to #1026. Technically I'm not quite half-way because I still have quite a few in the first three boxes. But, even so, it feels good to have reached the second half. I had the most difficulty with the garment-related section, partly because it's the first really long chapter and partly because I rushed through it without taking time to memorize the different primitives.

1026 Half way there!
