Could you dig up a little more info on the eng-jap dictionary? Like what dictionary it's using, etc. Maybe provide a link as well.

I've managed to get through my list of 150 words, and generated about 705 sentences through either the plugin, ALC, or my electronic dictionary. I'd say about 50% came from the plugin, about 45% from ALC, and the last 5% I typed in from my Kenkyuusha dictionary on my electronic dictionary.

I'll generate another list in the next day or two. I have to go through some vocab books and get ready for Dec. N1 anyway.

With ALC, I'm not as much concerned about finding definitions as I am about grabbing sentences or sentence fragments.

Also, doesn't ALC generally use dots/bullet points beside definitions? That might make them easier to spot. Also, ALC generally follows a similar pattern-- the word itself (if there's an entry), with definitions is always the first result. Make that translation a definition field if the search term == just the Japanese word in the first result.

For words further down, well, that's a similar problem with the other dictionaries, but users just have to use their own judgment in whether to include those words under the main word, or add them as separate entries and re-search and add them that way. Also, those longer, associated words would generally show up as the first entry in a specific search for those words... in which case you could also select the first entry's translation field as the definition. (If search_result == search_string sort of thing...)

So I think it shouldn't be too difficult if you follow those rules. (Is that making any sense?)

As for the Kenkyuusha, I have the 5th edition on my 電子辞書. I bought it as an add-on disc at Bic Camera when I was in Nagoya, and installed it on my Casio EX-Word. (Total PITA procedure, but worth it.) I love it. I don't know if I have an EPWING version of it, though. I may have one lying around on a HDD somewhere...

But yeah, I'm in favor of adding EPWING features to the program. I have a few dictionaries floating around that I could use to test it.

First things first, though, I need to generate more word lists.

Something else I've noticed: when editing the exported file in Excel, the notes field in the Words model entries contains </br>, and nothing else. It would be nice if it could contain a copy of the definition, like the sentences model does. That would help with editing the spreadsheet a lot. I have to copy/paste 150 definitions from all over the spreadsheet if I want to get at the sentences I put in the Words model cards.

I generated another word list to use with Dictscrape. It's a little more realistic. I went over about 120 entries in KO 2001 book 2, plucked out the frequently-used words and/or words I don't already know, and came up with about 330. There's another 150 or so that are less-frequently used words-- those I put on another list.

I'll peck away at it over the next few days to see what errors I can find.

I was inspired by rich_f and cb4960 to add Epwing support to my plugin. I will make another release in a couple days with epwing support added.

Cool. Let me know when it's ready-- I already have the 研究社和英大辞典第５版 installed on my Ubuntu box. I have the 第６版 floating around somewhere as well.
