I want to try out the kan ken. Is all I need the DS game, or do I need to get the "Step" books as well? Also, what is your recommendation for studying for the kan ken?? Thanks in advance.

I like to build my own SRS files using the Kan Ken Step books or other Japanese junior high school kanji practice books.

That said, if you already have a DS, using the game is probably a faster way to go about things.

I would have to recommend getting the Step books aswell, the games (especially the new Kanken DS2) are pretty in-depth but the step books and then the past test books are probably a necessary thing.. I think they cover a noticibly larger amount of the material than just the DS games alone.
