I finished RTK a while ago. I am starting to make some mnemonics to remember vocabulary. I guess my stories are a little like Kanji Damage, using mnemonic devices for on-yomi and the definition, but also using RTK keywords for the individual kanji of a word. I'm pulling the vocab from native text I am using to read along with an audiobook so that the second time I read the book I'll know the vocab better.

My main question is about the flashcard/anki card layout for the vocabulary I'm making mnemonics for. I probably won't include the stories on the cards, just the words and definitions. My instinct is to put the word in its native form on the front and put the furigana and translation on the back. Having done RTK just makes me question any assumptions I make about language learning. Would anyone suggest putting the translation on the front and the kanji on the back? Or perhaps just making two cards for each vocabulary?

PPS Does anyone know a good source to learn the native words for grammar terminology? I can look up words like "verb" and "noun" in a dictionary, but i'm sure there are native grammatical terms (like the word for a word that includes hiragana and kanji) that define phenomena unique to the japanese language. Thank you.

Post RTK many of us diverge on approaches.

The best method in my opinion, if possible, are images for the word as questions. This works great with nouns and most adjectives. Rosetta Stone for all its flaws did this part right although in an excessive way. However, I don't think there's a pre-existing deck that handles this.

After that, use translated meanings plus cloze sentences as the question for Japanese words. The Core 2k/6k lists have this down pat.
