Not many people seem to like Windows 8 for one reason or another though. Totally removing the start menu (I'm not sure if they added it in a later patch) wasn't a very good maneuver since many Microsoft employees behind 8 seem to have been fired after that.
What exactly is the point of posting this? Flame baiting?
The start menu isn't "totally removed", at all. It took a whole allotment of seconds to find this article explaining how to bring about the previous Windows start menu functionality:

Damn, that's easier than it is for most people to do basic operations on even the most user friendly Linux, etc. Distros (and yet more and more "Open source, free" alternatives to commercial operating systems are becoming popular within popular culture than ever).
You know, people were saying the same when Windows made the departure from DOS to a GUI. It's kind of lame, and in this thread serves absolutely no purpose but to antagonise. There are a lot of perfectly valid complaints which can be made about the latest version of said operating system, so it seems odd to pick out something entirely irrelevant to the thread AND which, with a few minutes of independent research, is shown to be, in its assume most begin form, simply misleading and ill-formed misunderstanding.
