Done 3007, no more ever again...
I'll only add more context/vocab instead. Best to learn stuff in context then separately.

btw - I am totally impressed and a little intimidated by all the people plowing through RTK3! In the year that I was away, these site-goers have become way more ambitious! Giddyup! Now I have to pick it up!
I may have finished the 2042, but I'm at around 200 reviews/day right now because I bottle-necked them all back into rotation in just a couple weeks, but once that simmers back down I'll probably tackle the RTK3.

48 days to finish and down to 5 reviews a day? That seems impossible. After 48 days of cramming, you have hundreds of reviews a day if you use this site.

Forgot to post on this thread after I finished! I finished a week ago, it took me about six months but at least I was able to get through it all this time. Before I couldn't get past 1500, but now that I am out of school I was able to take my time and go through it steadily. I'm still doing my reviews everyday, not sure if I will ever feel like doing the RTK3...

Ok I just finished mine as well.
I have been going on since about October 2008 so thats more than 1,5 years.
However I havent been doing it constantly, I added about 1200 until December 2008 and then I stopped for more than 1 year which was a horrible scenario to come back to. However I didnt start over again and suffered through my deck and now im finally done.
And this scares me.
I have NO idea on where to go from here. Seems everyone has it all figured out, I however dont.
I have since about 2 weeks ago started with Core 2000 series which you can download as a deck on Anki, im doing 20 new cards per day(which is not the same as 20 new facts), im trying to do a chapter of Tae Kims grammar guide every day and am soon finished with the most basic one, watching a little japanese anime with japanese subtitles, listening to music etc...but thats about it. Im trying to read shonen jump manga(in japanese of course) and its fun when I can undersand a sentence here and there but most of the time I just recognize kanjis and words, I think I need a better reading source which is suited to my vocab.
So friends, where do I go from here? I need to learn vocabs, I need to get my grammar game going and I REALLY need to start using my japanese in some immersive way, right now its just input input input and I feel like I need a little more output.
I should also say that this is entirely a hobbyproject and I have never receieved any professional tutoring worth mentioning. I do however have a burning passion to learn so I turn to all of you for help and guidance. Thank you very much!

Do things you enjoy. These are easiest to learn, because they are fun and we don't need to get motivated.
Then think of what will help you to enjoy it more - learning Kanji readings? Learning more vocab? etc...
You can go for input or output but I think that if you want a "native" sort of output you need to input for a long time (think babies and their output). However you could learn the common words such as one finds in textbooks, and you would be able to hold conversations fairly soon. It would be a strange sort of Japanese - like in English: "Hello Mrs Brown, this weather is not really my cup of tea". You know the kind of thing.
It's a difficult question for a lot of people. They say, "What should I be doing?". I say, "What would you like to do?".
Well done for finishing! You can learn anything now!

常用漢字を終えた! お疲れ様です!
After a 7 month slog, I finished with RTK1. Many, many thanks to all of you who have gone before. Without some of your stories from this site at critical moments, it would have easily taken me twice as long or more. m(__)m
