Ah, now, I have Kanji Odyssey as well, but I decided to go through UBJG grammar first. Let me know how it goes with KO. Maybe I could just go through both at the same time.

Oh Em Gee. I have waited sooooooo long for this day.
やったぁぁぁぁぁぁぁ~!!!!!!!!!!!!
The last couple of kanji were surprisingly easy.
Okay, okay, so I went to look up the translation of that Latin sentence, and I got "Bid farewell melior , Pain teeth wicked!"
So what does it mean?

If you really want to know, I'd recommend reading Heisig's other book. You can read about it here:

Finished! Now onto finding sentances to put in an SRS.
2008-10-12, 1:18 pm
Yay! Just hit the sign of the snake (巳) today, after roughly three months and a half, including a 15-day vacation in Japan (where I could barely review, let alone study). So I guess I'm just gonna celebrate my ascent into err... Japanese literacy?
Well, now to learn actual vocabulary, sentences and stuff, to transform this kanji knowledge into, well, actual literacy.

Woot finally finished RTK1. Damn it feels good too. Took me just under 6 freakin months with a begginning plan of doing it in 3-4 months. I still have crap loads of reviews but not near as bad as the guys finishing in 1-2months. I have 1,223 in deck 4 or greater ...but i have 262 failed kanji( bang those out in a couple days) hehe. I have noticed a huge difference in my train of thought when i see japanese text. I can at least get the gist of what is going on thanks to keywords.
Now I am off to doing UBJG/KO 2001/RtK3(once reviews tone down) simultaneoulsy.
To all those that are still on the path...keep at it, dont stop reviewing...it just makes it worse lol.

CONGRAAAATZ, saizen!!!
How many reviews do you have? I currently have 6458, with around 200 Kanji to go, which I thought was a lot until I saw Nukemarine with 26,000 reviews!!!

Would be kind of fun if User List had a # of Reviews column:
http://forum.koohii.com/userlist.php
Fabrice, how about adding it, the next time you update the page?

Woohoo! The RTK1 monkey is finally off my back!!!
It was tough, but thanks to all the creative minds on this board, I have finally finished on my 3rd attempt (got stopped around 600 the first time and around 900 the second time, years and years ago, before SRS and this site).
Lesson 54 with the Trojan Horse was excellent - I wished all the lessons went that smoothly. Also, the Bruce Lee character made up for some kick-ass stories in the end!
My notebooks show that, including practice and testing, 21,600 reviews in the bank, including 6,648 on this site. One notebook contains 20,000 reviews. Besides using this site, I have also been using jMemorize to reinforce my learning.
Now, my next steps (concurrent) will be:
- JLPT2 grammar & reading comprehension
- Kanji in Context vocabulary
- RTK3 very slowly
Ah... ...forgot - will have to reward myself with an iPod Touch tomorrow

kfmfe04 Wrote:Ah... ...forgot - will have to reward myself with an iPod Touch tomorrowYou live in Tokyo?
Do you know if there are any duty free shops in Akihabara where I might find an ipod touch. If so, do you know if those are more expensive than the normal ones?
I wanna buy an ipod touch, too, but once I return to my homecountry in some years, the customs will eat me (x___X)

2042字大成功!!
Finally I passed the 2042 mark.
Although I don't write a lot around here I want to thank this forum and it's members because a lot of posts here provided me with much needed information and especially motivation.
Actually I had given up at the beginning of lesson 23 because I thought the reviews were too timeconsuming. But thanks to the this website and the power of the SRS I gave it a second try - and finally succeeded.
Thanks to all of you, congratulations to those who finished and those who did not finish yet: Hang on! It's worth the effort.

saizen Wrote:I wanna buy an ipod touch, too, but once I return to my homecountry in some years, the customs will eat me (x___X)There are many duty free shops in Akihabara, but they won't work for you, because it sounds like you have some kind of long-term visa (not on a tourist visa, right?). But there is no need to worry about customs - most customs laws are for people who domicile in their home country and bought something on vacation. If you are here long-term, you shouldn't be taxed, except for perhaps big items that you bring home (like a vehicle?)...
Anything else, would be insane! I mean, you will avoid buying any computers or electronics for the next XXX years because you need to pay customs when you bring them back in XXX years?!? Doesn't make any sense...
GRAAATZ to evil_dragon!!! Keep those reviews up until you push them out to the far decks...

I usually study one enjoyable hour a day. After 8 months I have completed 800 kanjis. Maybe I am sort of retarded person ... considering all the quick young people here ...

Done. Finished. Holy crap.
It's 2am, I'm bleary-eyed from trying to figure out how the hell to write "attack" properly, and feel like getting drunk in celebration of cramming two thousand and forty-two squiggly characters in my head.
For anybody that cares, here are some stats:
Current Deck:
failed - 35
never tested - 49
stack 1 - 177
stack 2 - 329
stack 3 - 382
stack 4 - 1070
other:
current number of reviews: 8556
date started: june 26th, 2008 (so.. just shy of 4 months)
times I said "what the *****, Heisig?" - 153

Finished! I think I was more excited last week when I had about 100 to go then I am actually finishing it today. Took me 5 months 5 days.... First 1000 I did in two weeks. Wow, anyone else have such a discrepancy between first and second 1000?
Finally can get back to REAL Japanese!

It's a done deal! Landed on the snake (巳) about 30 minutes ago.
This accomplishment feels great! Future plans consist of starting the sentence method.
I've been following strictly, the AJATT method, so my environment (listening) has been on non-stop in the past 2 months since I've started RTK1 (when no class or work is in session, of course). My listening comprehension has noticeably grown since I've started AJATT, so I think I'm ready to tackle the sentence method.
For those almost home, keep it up!

If the speed feels right for you, you prove you're NOT retarded by following that speed.

When semester started I slowed down real bad and had a few week longs breaks that took another week just to get through all the reviews...

dhanyavaada Wrote:I usually study one enjoyable hour a day. After 8 months I have completed 800 kanjis. Does the 1 hour per day include reviewing? 20 minutes per story does sound a bit extreme, but if it works for you, keep at it.

I did my 30/day with ~3hours a day, maybe a bit more sometimes.
