subs2srs: Display problem with Dueling Subtitles

#1
I was setting up a subtitle file using the Dueling Subtitles option in subs2srs, but when I load my subtitles with my video in VLC, some characters seem to display incorrectly:

Dual

Japanese only

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what be causing this problem. Here are links to the dual and japanese original subtitle files (best to right click and save-as if you download):

Dual
Japanese

Also, if it helps I am on a Mac running Lion and I run subs2srs using mono (verion 2.6.7)

Thanks!

I tried your dueling subtitles in Windows with both VLC and MPC, both worked correctly. Also appears normal in Linux with VLC.

The font in those subtitles is set to Arial. Does Mac have Arial installed? If not, maybe the Mac version of VLC doesn't know how to fallback correctly to another font in certain cases. You could try setting the font to a known Mac Japanese font by clicking the "Subs1/2 Style" button in the Dueling Subtitles Dialog or just manually editing the .ass subtitle file.

Thank for the help. I was able to figure it out with your suggestion.

Yeah, Mac does have Arial, but VLC seemed to have some problem with it. I had to manually edit the .ass file and change the font to one of the Japanese fonts in the OS X system:

Hiragino Kaku Gothic ProN

...for anyone else that runs into this problem. You can probably use any of the fonts labeled Hiragino. Open the 'Font Book' program to see them all.
