Series or Movies with Japanese Subtitles

#1
I give up. Trying to get a series / movie with Japanese subtitles is just impossible. The movie may be offline already, not all the subtitles are available, BitTorrent is "I want to die" slow, or maybe I just don't know how to do it… it would be so much easier to stream the video with Jap. subtitles already, from dramacrazy.net for example and that's not possible right?.

What about buying legit DVD/Bluray movies? Do these come with the option for Japanese subtitles?.

Err, get the movie normally and then download some Japanese subs separately? Most subtitle websites have them in all languages, Japanese included.

(I think talking in pirate is forbidden here, btw)

Another alternative, if you can't find the subs online, is to get scripts of series or movies. For example, if you want the uncut scripts of the old TV show Trick, you can get this "scenario" book:

There are also complete scripts of movies, like Battle Royale:

@mmhorii The first link makes no sense to me, Trick? what is that? And the second is all gibberish and I don't know why.

EDIT: Geez, this is like asking 'do you know any drug dealers?' because either no one knows or no one cares Sad

This site has Japanese subs for nearly every series of the last 6 years or so.

As it was said earlier in this thread, we are not allowed to mention any site/place to get pirated goods. Google is your friend here, could google such things as "how do I put Japanese subs into VLC" and then google Japanese subtitles for XXXX.

The "right" thing to do is buy Japanese media.

Alternatives:
For series, there are sites like this:
http://jdramazone.com/

For movies, there are sites like this:
http://www.asiatorrents.com/

P.S. Trick is an old TV show starring Yukie Nakama, but I'm guessing it predates you. And the Battle Royale website I linked to earlier does show up as gibberish on my iPod, but converts to Japanese characters on my desktop computer. Go figure.

EDIT: After changing my iPod display language to Japanese, the Battle Royale website shows Japanese characters.

Well, I don't mind buying them, the problem is the Japanese subtitles, how can I buy them with Japanese subtitles?. Do DVD's come with Japanese subtitles?

You could buy the dvds and rip them to your computer and then download the specific subtitles and voila! Of course you would need to check on Japanese subtitles sites first to see if there are any in existence.

If you're not very good on the tech side I'm sure a lot of people could help you to achieve this.

Some DVDs have Japanese subtitles, and some don't, so you'll have to read the DVD descriptions carefully before buying. Other caveats:

1. Make sure that you can play the DVD based on the DVD region code and the kind of DVD player you have.

2. Some DVDs don't have exact Japanese subs, so there may be slight variations between the actual dialogue and the subs.

This is a solved problem. Since japanese TV went digital, it's become painfully easy to rip the closed captions for the hearing impaired along with the video stream. As a result, basically every drama from the last few years has more or less exact japanese subtitles available. If you can't find them, your google skills are either sorely lacking or you're not trying.

Seriously, google the name of the drama and "japanese subtitles". If they exist, the link to the page on d-addicts will be like the first link. If you can't see any relevant result on the first page of results, the subtitles probably don't exist. Try again with a newer drama.

As for slow torrents, get current stuff (dramas from the last 6-12 months) and that's rarely an issue. You can usually get a whole season in a matter of hours. We can't give you any more help with this as direct links, etc are against the forum rules. This is not a grey piracy site, it's a language learning site.

DVDs are hit and miss as to whether they have japanese subs, although many do. Check before buying. Don't bother with western stuff, even if it's dubbed into japanese. The japanese subs won't match the japanese dub (done by different people at different times). New is better than old. Modern closed captions are pretty much exactly what was said with every stumble etc. Will also teach you words like 咳払い and 振動音 lol.

Or it seem like a toddler asking some adults about where the "birds & bees" come from?? Wink

If NO ONE knows or cares...
there won't be any reply or response at all to your question posted here.

As mmhorii have explained earlier, you have to check and look for the characters "日本語字幕" (Japanese subtitles) on the back of the DVD cover or the online store information.

For example:
This Ryomaden Taiga Drama have Japanese subtitles "日本語字幕"
http://www.1stdvds.net/ryomaden.html

But this Ryomaden Taiga Drama DON'T have Japanese subtitles 字幕情報:字幕なし
http://www.shop.kotenha.com/ec-classic/p...4210060903

Someone had made a list of movies with Japanese subtitles.
http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E5%A4%96%E5%9B%...9SU8XZDMIK

Presumably your internet browser can read/view Japanese fonts. Otherwise, don't click on those links above, it will just show up gibberish stuff.

There are some western stuff with both 「日本語吹替用字幕」 (Japanese-dub subtitles) and 「日本語字幕」 (Japanese subtitles) as well as the 「聴覚障害者用字幕」 (Japanese subtitles for hearing-impaired "or those who may have difficulty with hearing condition")

This information is usually printed on the back cover of the DVD.

Do you know about 超字幕?

さあ。。。

Erh, maybe there's a BIG LUCRATIVE market in Japan for the Japanese who are willing to fork out their hard-earn money to spend on learning English??

Actually, I use it to study Japanese too. Big Grin

There's a trial version online, I think.
