Hilarious Photo?

#1
Hi guys,

A long time ago on this forum, someone posted a hilarious photo of a young white guy in bed with a geisha-esque Japanese woman while her scary-looking angry husband is walking in the doorway. I need it for a presentation I'm doing soon but can't seem to track it down. If anyone has a copy or knows where I can find it, I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks!
Seth

That's the picture that you want to use for "arrival" - .

Yes, it's hilarious and memorable Smile

A quick question for the experts: What do the characters on the hanging scroll say?

Something Chinese

After some guessing and googling, I turned up with this, or some variations thereof:
行文简浅顕 做事诚平恒

Best explanation I could find: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/ynm0/62609786.html
According to that, it's originally by a Dǒng Qíchāng. I have no idea if that's correct or what it means, though.

I thought that on your page they selected:
行文簡淺顯 做事誠平恒

for which Google Translate gives:
"Language of simple plain things, Cheng Ping Heng"(?)

or (just playing silly with Google):
"Drafting simple and obvious things to do with permanent level of sincerity"(???)

Aha, Chinese... I thought as much. I must say I admire your ability to read the mystic brushstrokes. Now that you have typed out the characters I actually recognize most of them and can even guess at the meaning.

Cheers

PS Sadly, nothing it seems to do with the scenario at hand unless the Chinese verse referenced is about cheating foreigners and faithless partners.

(Of course the couple in bed may really be a couple.... and the man coming in a friend, interrupting at an inopportune moment Smile )

Yeah, i thought exactly the same thing! I guess this is because I had a Japanese partner for several years though...

The link no longer leads to the described image... Here an alternative link: http://s12.photobucket.com/user/guitar72...3.jpg.html

I have it saved now, if this new one is to die too.

I used this pic as my mnemonic for 到 .

What is the significance of the guy in bed being white rather than Japanese?

It's done so that it becomes more obvious that the person coming through the door is the husband.

Not to argue but I know/know of many white men with oriental wives. Not a big deal, for some reason the picture ticked me off a bit.

Luckily, humor tends to play off stereotypes. I say luckily because I'm yet to see a single politically correct person manage to be funny. And the world would be a sad place indeed without funny people in it.

The house is oriental, the wife is oriental, and the man entering through the door is oriental. This is done so that the man in bed stands out as the single non-oriental element in the composition and looks out of place. Look no further into it, as overthinking can misguide your judgment. You might end thinking he is french because of the wine + infidelity + a battle about to be lost.

If you're going to be complaining about things being not PC, then you shouldn't be using non PC terms like "oriental"
