Why does this site generate so little review cards?

#1
I have to be doing something wrong. I am only 300 some Kanji into this, but it generates about 10 cards a day for review. I would prefer way way more than that. I am using Anki too, but it seems to only want to cram new cards down my throat as opposed to being able to just review for a few days. I'm certain I'm overlooking the obvious. I am curious as to any other free flash card applications like Anki that I could download.

Some of the other members on here can probably better answer your question, but I think the reason why it keeps showing you new cards is that they haven't had time to mature yet. You are still reviewing, but you're going to be seeing your new cards more frequently than your old cards, because that's the way Anki works.
You probably don't need to use both Anki and the flashcard program on here, by the way. Just doing one of the programs will be enough to help you learn and remember your kanji.

Anki can be set to give you any amount of new cards per day, but I think I remember it defaulting to twenty. When you open your deck, go to the new cards tab. Tell it to give you 0 new cards per day if you want some days without new cards.

How many kanji are you adding per day? 300 cards in is only 15% of the way into the book. The review system on this site is more calibrated for having about 5x time the number you have now.

You should trust the system. If you finish your reviews for the day, but you still want to do kanji then just add new kanji. As you add more new kanji your number per day will go up for sure. I've re-done RTK very slowly over the past year, and right now I'm at about 100 cards per day. It takes me about 25 minutes to review.

Out of curiosity, what was your average new cards per day?

Because it uses the Leitner method.

The more focus and attention you put into learning the characters, the more success at passing reviews and remembering them for a long time.

Early on it's mostly a matter of trust. Focus on learning the character. And trust that you'll remember them. If you don't, you'll fail, and get the extra reviews Smile

The advantage of this, is you get to know what stories don't work as early as possible. You can fool yourself reviewing all your cards everyday it won't mean schtick for your ability to remember them after several weeks.

SomecallmeChris Thank you very much. I just switched to 0 cards and it started drilling me on the cards I wanted to review.
Thank you everyone else. All the questions and comments helped me to understand. I haven't been thinking in a cards per day sense because I study a few times a day and use the two applications for my RTK aspect of studies sooooo... Anyhow, I'm not supposed to send out messages before drinking my coffee. ; )
