This is an option in the new cards tab in Anki (SRS I use...), it throws in new cards randomly throughout your review of old cards.

Has anyone had any success with this option?

I think I'm going to give it a try tomorrow and see if it makes learning new cards less of a drag when doing 25+ new cards. I used to just do them at the beginning then I started doing them at the end. Both have their ups and downs but trying to remember 25 new cards at once is slow at times.

Anki will still show them in the correct card order (not randomly thrown into the reviews) so you won't see a symbol with a primitive you haven't learned yet so I don't see it being to big of a deal. Might make learning new cards a breeze!

I personally just do the mature cards first and new cards later (in that order), It works well but I have tried mixing it in with the mature cards. It might create more time to do all the cards but if your adding a small amount of cards, you probably won't notice much change in time. Then again, it's good that your experimenting around and finding your own pace/options for doing srs reps well.

I see the benefit of doing all new cards at once is that since the cards are building upon each other due to the primitives, they piece together nicely to learn in a group.

However failing the cards over and over for 30+ minutes until they stick a little bit- is what I am trying to overcome. Not that I can't do it, it can just become dreary at times.

I would like to increase my new card count to a slightly higher number so anything to give me an advantage in doing that would be great. Not that I don't have the time to sit around and learn new cards, but if there is a more effective way to do it I'm all for it.

BTW, I am following the AJATT method so I am doing immersion and completing RTK first before diving into the actual language learning process.

I am currently at card number 1200 (500 matured) after a 5-6 weeks of RTK.

EDIT: I could just be over thinking RTK again. lol B)

acts as good reinforcement of material learned from the srs and creates better understanding too (just adding to your post)

I had great success with this method today. I did 135 reviews and 25 new cards in a little over an hour. Did not feel dragged down at all and Anki tends to show you a couple new cards at a time not just throwing in one here and there so it still helps with the grouping.

I always mix old and new in, but I give them a once-over before they're added for SRS. So I'll spend a little bit of time with each kanji the day the before, unsuspend them in Anki, and then they pop up the next day in the rotation for the first time.
