That's because Ankidroid is developed by a third party developers, Google has nothing to do with it.

The iPod/iPhone version is developed by Damien himself, it's official and probably beats AnkiDroid by far. That's not saying AnkiDroid doesn't work great (I find the current 1.1beta awesome), but surely it's worth the money.
