Going to a hairstylist wouldn't hurt your chances whoever you're after.

I wonder what it is about learning Japanese that makes Japanese women such a hot commodity. Being new and exotic? Perceived differences in personality? Constant exposure (often to celebrities)? Over sexualized anime? Or maybe just liking the country makes you idealize everything in it.

I think maybe its an extension of "Japan's cool" and by some effect that makes the women more sought after (outside Japan). I will say living in Japan provide a different motivator (for me), and that is the skirts. So many skirts...
On a more serious note though. I don't really understand the attachment to Japanese women so much unless it is because they are somehow connected to the "Japan's cool" fad (as I said above). Personally, if you were to put average Korean or Taiwanese girl next to Japanese girl, I would probably choose the Korean or Taiwanese over the Japanese in beauty. I've seen tons of drop dead gorgeous Taiwanese girls who I swear to this day MUST be models, but apparently they are simple "run-of-the-mill" women in Taiwan...┐( ̄▽+ ̄*)┌?サッパリ
EDIT: People like whats different to them. Regardless of culture or time period. History shows this to be true. Different = Exotic, and will be sought after.

Unfortunately this kind of girl is also likely to want to move to America or Europe, so bit of a catch 22 situation

I used to know a guy who was in his mid-50s and thinking that *this* time for sure he would marry a woman from the right country. He already had at least one failed marriage, to a woman from southeast Asia... I think this time he was trying for a Japanese woman.
He seemed like a sad, sad person.

My sister worked for a guy who constantly flew over to China to meet women he had talked to online. None of them ever worked out, and he was never in a good mood when he came back home. Doesn't seem like a happy or healthy way to pursue love.

The women pretend to be interested, the men pay the company's fees, they fly to the country and then the women have a "change of heart" and decide they don't want to marry the men afterall. Then the company says, "ah it's too bad it didn't work out but we've got someone that we think would be perfect for you." and tries to set them up with someone else and, of course, he has to pay all over again.

I wouldnt say the same thing about Korean women though, they do too much plastic surgery and look a bit too creepy for my tastes. lastly, though, despite the hottness of taiwanese girls, in the end a girl from Taiwan isnt going to get me a Japanese visa, so its a no go(unfortunately) for them.Apache Chief Wrote:I wonder what it is about learning Japanese that makes Japanese women such a hot commodity. As a white woman in Japan I have been approached by Japanese men who want a foreign girlfriend and I have always found it rather perplexing. I always wonder how they think a foreign woman will be different from a Japanese one. I wonder what their motives are. Do they think a foreign girlfriend would be "cool"? Have they heard some kind of silly stereotype that foreign women are easy? Do they want to practice their English? If a Japanese man says right out that he wants a foreign girlfriend then that would be an automatic turnoff for me.
A while ago I posted a quick introduction on another forum for foreign women in Japan in which I said I was an American woman living in Japan and married to a Japanese man yada yada yada. And I actually got an email from a Japanese guy basically saying, "It's my goal in life to marry an American. Can you tell me how you met your husband? Do I need to move to America to meet an American woman? Please tell me how I can find an American wife." Well, I won't say it was creepy as much as just odd. Why an American? What does he think that means to be married to an American? I don't know but I got the impression that he watched too many American movies and thought that we all were a bunch of Cameron Diazes and Jennifer Lopezes and that we all drove Mercedes and shopped on Rodeo Drive. He obviously had some idea in his head that American women are_________ and was looking for a woman to fit that image.
If this is how the OP is coming off to Japanese women then I doubt he will ever find someone. No person wants the job of fitting into someone else's preconceived notions of who they should be and they especially don't want to the job of fulfilling the other person's sterotypes of that entire culture.
And for the record, I have no problem with people only being physically attracted to people of a certain race. Most people have strong racial preferences it's just that most people are only attracted to their own race so nobody thinks anything of it. Being open to dating someone regardless of race is actually very rare. It's just when you like a certain race because you believe certain stereotypes that go along with it that the problem comes in, I think.

To the OP - if you haven't already, go to gaijinpot. Alot of posters there are in the same boat as you there; you'll get more helpful advise than from this site (primarily a language forum):
