Japanese Language Research Study: Native Japanese Speakers Needed

#1

そして、TESOL(英語を母語としない人々に対する英語科教育法)で修士号(大学院前期課程)を習得したいと考えています。

In English:
Hi,

My name is Karina Soriano and I have recently graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A in Linguistics. I hope to go on to graduate study to receive an M.A in TESOL. Presently, I am using my academic training and skills for a research study partnered with Versant.

I am using this forum to today to ask for your participation in a research study that would require native Japanese speakers to take a short (30-45 minutes) sample English writing test. The results are confidential and anonymous and will only be used for research study. The information recorded is to help improve automated scoring models for language software.

To participate you must be a native speaker of Japanese and have an intermediate proficiency in English. In addition, you must be 18 years old or older. If you live in Japan or outside of the U.S, I am available for questions via email or Skype (karina.ixel.soriano).

I would greatly appreciate your participation.

Thank you,
Karina

Note: Although this is not a paid study, I would gladly exchange English tutoring services or pen pal and conversation partnerships for your time.

I would advise you to have someone translate your message into Japanese.
Most native speakers will not be able to understand your posting in English
(even if they are intermediate).

I'll take your advice on that.

Especially since you aren't offering any payment for participating I think you should at least say what the end goal with your language software is. Is it commercial? Will it be used to develop better pedagogical learning material for Japanese schools? I think that the participants should be given a chance to know what interests are being promoted when they participate in this study.

I believe I mentioned that when I said, "The information recorded is to help improve automated scoring models for language software."

What comes from results is simply a better test and scoring logarithm, thus a more efficient way of reporting proficiency reports to future test takers.
