Anyone taking it this time around? My school offers the test once a year in late October so I'm taking level 3. A friend of mine is taking level 6 next month. Anyone else?

I did want to go for 5級 in November, but with all the JLPT study I have to get done, I'm gonna take it in January instead. I'm pretty lucky here, our school holds the test 4 times a year.
Good luck with 3級!

Greetings, everybody! This is my first post here.
When I saw the Kanken headline, I couldn't resist posting!
I'll be taking 準2級 on Sunday. I'm feeling pretty confident and doing good on practice tests. I'm more worried about the prep it's going to take for 2級 at this point.
Good look!!!!

Good luck to you, Orochi, and welcome.
Is level 2 really that much harder than pre-level 2? The step books present the exact same set of characters and compounds for both levels, though the practice questions are different. I'd been thinking it was a relatively small jump considered the gaps between other levels.
I recognize you from JREF. What brings you to our humble forum?

Level 2 is quite a bit more difficult from the practice tests I have taken. It covers all the 常用漢字 and some 人名用漢字 as well. The vocabulary requirements are a bit trickier, too. There's a bit of an "academic" or "intellectual" leap between the two I think. I guess that's why they bothered to split level 2 into two parts.
The stricter requirements on the passing score are rough, too. Up to pre-2, you only need 140/200 to pass. But 2 (and up) requires 160/200. So it's difficult to coast through and pass level 2 right on the borderline. You either know the stuff or you don't.

The kanji kalled.
I've just been looking around for a forum where I could get involved in some good conversations about kanji and studying. I didn't have much luck since most Japanese language forums are 90% "Hey, can you guys translate Insomniatic Dreamer for me cuz I want a Japanese tatoo".
This site looked good, though.

I took mine at my school so I'm going to have to wait 'til the 国語 teacher gets the results.
Congrats to you, orochi. Here's to similar results on 2級.

Is there any way to prepare for the vocabulary on these tests? I can look up the words on the online tests, but that's only a fraction... I'm not actually taking the tests, just looking for more study resources.
