Different countries handle the reporting of results differently. So what applies in India doesn't really apply in Japan or Canada or the US.
So I have no doubt that you're correct about how to check your results in India, but it's not going to be that way for other people.

For those that have taken both the N5 and N4, how much of a leap above the former is the latter?
A little background: I started studying Japanese just before the 2010 JLPT but didn't feel quite confident enough to take the N5 at that point, so I studied my butt off and waited for the 2011 test. I passed it and immediately started studying for the N4. But just before the N5 my son was born, and after the test I quit my job to become a stay-at-home dad. I try to study whenever I can--at least an hour a day--but it's a far cry from being able to study 3+ hours a day (I had a customer service job at a desk, so I could have my text and flash cards in front of me literally all day), and I'm not sure I'm quite up to the N4.
The $50 isn't really the issue--I've budgeted for the fee, pass or fail--it's more I don't want to waste my time/take up a seat if I'm going to fail miserably.
All that to say, to those who've been there before: stretch myself and go for it or ramp up my studying and wait for next year?

When will results be posted online for the rest of the world. I sure remember filling up a password to check the results online when I was filling up the application form.

Congrats erlog!
I'm considering doing N3 in December... I have done RTK, Core2k, Tae Kim, and some passive listening. Thoughts? Suggestions? Can I do it? >.<

Thanks for heads up erlog. I just called up the host institution and they informed that they will receive some kind of link from Japan and that they will post that link on their site or mail it and I can check my results online.
And I can understand how you feel. The July exam was my 5th attempt at N1. I really hope to pass this time so that I can focus more on other areas rather than working towards obtaining the JLPT certification.

@erlog, congrats!
I'm also rooting for you on the 漢検. You'll have to keep updating with your status on that big 漢検 thread. You're up to at least 3級 or 準2級, right?

Oh man don't remind me, I feel uber stumped these days and I'm not sure whether I feel prepared for the N2. But going for the N3 would be anticlimatic.

Yay I passed N2 surprisingly! I didn't think I'd pass. Here's the breakdown. 110/180; Language Knowledge 40/60, Reading 22/60, and finally Listening 48/60. I did better than expected on the language part and worse than I thought on the listening. I took N3 last December, N2 in July, and now it's time for the main event in December, N1! We'll see how that goes... Anyway, congrats everyone and good luck with the next one!
